need help identifying this quad.
« on: September 03, 2015, 03:16:37 pm »
I'm looking at buying 2 Suzuki 229 cm mfg in 6/ 86'. The vin number is as follows,... jsaaj46a9h2109804.  The other Suzuki had The vin number scratched off.  One was a pull start and I'm not sure on the other one.  It had a shifter for the gears and just behind it was another lever for what I believe is a reverse gear.  Pics to come.

Sorry el Diablo, both both are suzuki's, both with 229cc's on the side of the jug.  Both manufactured the same month (6th month) in 1986'. I know they are 230 ,... I just don't know the model designator...ie.is it a LT230GE Quad Runner, or a LT230S Quad Sport. What's the difference between the 2?  What do I look for to know which one it is.

Apparently in 1986, they made 3 models with a 230 engine in them.
1986 LT-230GE QUAD RUNNER
1986 LT-230S   QUAD SPORT
1986 LT-F230   QUAD RUNNER

From what I've been to figure out, the QUAD SPORT doesn't have an electric starter on it and the other 2 did come with electric start.

So now I know it's one of the 2 QUAD RUNNERs.

X2
it a quadsport 230 if with manual clutch kickstart and chain drive
it a 87+ quadruner 230 if no clutch, semi-auto tranny,  starter and chain drive

One is a Yamaha, the other looks to be a 230 Quadsport?

He's only asking $50 for the red fender quad that has the vin number scratched off.  I can never register it.  I feel it's a good parts quad.

They said 600 to 700 for the blue fender quad. I told her we were way apart but she was still interested in selling it. ;D P*

If I buy these quads I'll post up pics of what they did to this blue one so we can ases condition, figure out what's missing, worn out (they are probably going to be in) :( but the way I see it, these 2 quads will be 30 years old next year and have probably never been maintained well. I just couldn't walk away when I heard about them.  Is there a certain builder that specializes in these 230's?

What kind of things can we do to the motor to improve reliability and more power. maybe big bore it? Does the 230 community send your factory shocks to pep boys too?  I can't wait till we are having them over for a bbq on Tuesday @ 6:00pm.  I'm starting a list of everything that it needs. Just from my observations of them in person, I'd say the blue fender is in way better shape. Is that a left hand clutch cable or is that a brake possibly. I don't remember seeing a kick starter on it.  But my memory is lousy.

Thanks el Diablo. Ill call them later in the week, once I've sat down with the owner tonight at our bbq and discuss price.  I'm not sure what a fair price is for the gray yamaha fendered quad.  The motor isn't frozen.  The pull starter turned the engine over, but I have yet to hear it run.  What would you guys pay for an 86' LT230S Quad Sport?   I'd really appreciate your guys opinion.  Thanks

Once I get them home, can anyone help identify the model?  All I know is that both are 230's made in 86'.  Both have electric start and a pull start. They don't have clutch, so they can't be the LT230S quadsport.

I finally got the 2 quads home and immediately started swapping out parts from the donor quad.  Exhaust, rear rack, fender supports, reverse lever, seat and such and such.  Degreased the engine and washed it off.  Took an updated picture for you guys.  If I could find a +4 swinger and a big bore kit and have the rear shock revalved for a 230lb man and add 250lbs for a dear...lol I think this would make a great dear hunting quad.  I'm considering having extreme motors do the engine build.  That's where I'm at.
