Chuckies 'Heinz 57' LT250R
« on: October 06, 2013, 07:23:52 pm »
Lmao that's a HORRIBLE thread title! Someone give me a better title!

So I guess since I'm doing more and more to the 250 now I outa start a thread.

Back story:

The bike is an 87 LT250R that was raced on the lakes in michigan from 87 to 96/97. She blew a piston or sleeve at some point because there's shrapnel marks in the crank area,,,,,, it's got a mystery 88+ top end on it that's ported to hell and back,, and has a mutters stamp on the side but no one could I D it,,, yet. Rocking a PSI expansion chamber and old school DG can, TM34 carb. Anyway,, her last race the COMPLETE clutch assembly exploded. And for some reason it came down here to Louisiana an in 98 it ended up in my families shop for repairs. My uncle spent a week and a half picking bits of the basket, hub and outer pressure plate out of the bottom end. And it needed a bore but the guy who had it didn't want to bore it. And then he didn't want to pay so they kept the bike as payment. They rode it for a little whole then they were selling it to a cousins boyfriend. Well he rode the **** out of it for 3 months and never paid them so they got it back with the top end shot and the rear end bearings SHOT. So it got pushed into the woods for 13 years,,, until my great grandmaw died and my mom and I were up there passing through for the funeral. I'm in the woods taking pictures of the bike and my uncle Kipp goes 'You want that Suzuki?' WHAT?! YEA!!!!! So the next October I get the bike out the woods. 9 months later I've completely rebuilt it from the frame up in my bedroom (I'll throw some pics in here later on but I'm sure most of you remember it). It was my first "major" engine I had been in and I rebuilt it all,,, the only thing I had help with was fixing the stripped crank threads. I heli-coiled/epoxied the 2 stripped head stud holes. It's been a year and a half now and it's still running strong!!!! I'm real happy with it!!!!

Anyway,,,,

Right now I'm working on doing a Zilla a arm swap. And putting a zilla hood with the 2-piece maier plastics

A member here is hooking me up with a PVL once I got the $$$ and I plan to get an SCP pipe to compare to my PSI.

Things I NEED to do are: Replace bent 24 spline rear axle (I HAD 24 SPLINE 5-LUG REAR HUBS TOO. WTF.), rebuild rear shock, billet thrust washers, RM wrist pin bearing, find out jets to start with for the 38mm carb, replace mystery front shocks (uncles got it with struts), and replace TRASHED rear end bearings, plus replace front wheel bearings, and the top exhaust flange stud threads in my jug are stripped out (gotta heli coil it).

Post some pictures of it mounted and I can get a better idea of what it'll look like. You two may be onto something here. It's very unique.

Here's the hood mounted on my half cut/half uncut fronts

I know it would look better without the little tab thing hanging down and if I blended the fender into the hood better but I'm leaving that bit for incase I don't like the look or something I can switch back to the regular 250 hoods

well i got one lower a arm modded up. i was sick earlier this week so i havent started on the other lower. I still need to get bushings/bearings for the lower arms as well. 86 is sending me another good lower balljoint so the front will get squared away.

y'all are gunna flip a bit here in a few hours lmao

also knocked the rear end out of it and my bearings are in fact SHOT. and i managed to severely brain fart and threw my rear seals and bearings with seals in them in a bucket of Chem-Dip cleaner........ acid + rubber = SERIOUS FACEPALM MOMENT THE NEXT MORNING.. but yea. so I need: rear bearings, rear seals, rear axle, rear brake pads, replace rear caliper, rebuild rear master cylinder (oh wait, I CANT....) REPLACE rear master cylinder......

i need 1 of 4 front wheel bearings. the other 3 are still good and tight. gunna soak them in chem dip. for the front i need to: get ss lines, blast hubs, blast calipers, 1 "big" bearing, new seals (maybe), 2 a-arm bearing kits OR 4 arm bushings.

Thanks yall!! She was super fun to rebuild. It was my first ever complete restobuild. It took 9 months after i finally got it home (it took a year to get it home! lol)

Hopefully this time around it wont take as long...

wait WHAT?! YUP!! Tearing it back down to a bare frame again. After a year and a half of beating on it its looking like total crap again. So i'm stripping her down and going back together with fresh paint, powder, and polish. all new bearings, new/mint swingarm (if i cant find an aftermarket one for a REAL good price). gunna see about upgrading brakes while im at it too. go with stainless braided lines,,,

GUYS!!!!! If you ever need your shop rebuilt,, CALL SUSPENSION 101!!!!! Mr. George is AWESOME!! He quoted me a $150-ish price today to rebuild my rear shock! And he said that he may not even charge me THAT much. Can not WAIT to get it sent to him!!

UPDATE TIME:

Got all the wheel bearings ordered today as well as the hydraulic clutch assembly. Gunna finish modding up the last a-arm today too and test fit it. A buddy from another forum is making me up some Delrin a-arm bushings so the lower arms will FINALLY be able to be installed completely.

Decided NOT to strip it to bare frame. Just getting it all back together so Chevyvetterzr10 and I can go hit up some local MX tracks with 250 and 500. Looking forward to riding with him!

All Anerican is hooking me up with the Works A-T Stealers dual rate front shocks and the blue rear spring that he's got for sale in his ad. The front shocks are a full inch longer than what I've got now and the rear spring seems to be about an inch shorter than stock. I know that some people are gunna be like 'why da fook do you want to sacrifice rear travel' blah blah blah. But I don't like how high the bike sits in the rear. As y'all should know I'm a trike guy and prefer to sit lower. It just feels more stable.

Buckeye is hooking me up with some zilla TIE RODS WITH BALLJOINTS on them. If they turn out bent or something I've got the other tie rods that Chevy dropped off to swap over too. Eventually I will go with some American Racing or American star (whatever it's called) tie rods with heim joints at the ends.

As it is I'm just trying to get it all back together and rideable lol. I gotta fix up the top exhaust stud threads in my cylinder cause they are stripped. I'm tempted to run a bolt up through the pipe into the cylinder and then put a nut on the backside of the bolt so it's got what's left of the threads AND a nut to hold it in place.

Also, I think my pipe **** again so that may need to be repaired (again) and I'll need to make me an isolated/hanger bracket thing to keep that from happening again.

I think that's about it.... Not sure....
Will update as things progress.

So I got a potential new owner for the 400EX coming by tomorrow. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that ole boy buys Ol Ugly!
If he does I'll be able to get the PVL ignition from Chris for Heinz 57 (gotta thank Chevy for the name!!! ). Then I'll need to get some other things to mount it an all but it'll get around sooner or later haha.

She's getting there!!

Not a whole lot to update really....

Got my front hubs sand blasted yesterday. Gotta little blue left over that I got get off then I think I'm gunna do all the outer edges on a wire wheel and leave the inner parts the bead blasted  finish. I dunno,,,   Mated up with the zinc coated front disks I got from Tony last year I think they are gunna look good after doing some file work

Also got in the hydraulic clutch assembly

But it's gunna be a pain to retro fit it. I gotta make/mod either a clutch arm that will go to the end on the clutch rod,, or make a end for the clutch rod that will work with the stock clutch pull arm. Also, the fitting on the slave cylinder is TINY

So I gotta find something that's the same size, so I can get a longer hose made. This hose on it is BARELY long enough for my 110....

OH!!  And I finished up the other a-arm, getting it cut down and filed smooth I mean. Slapped it up into the frame for mock up

After I found the other camber shim. Which it was in its bag, in the box it came in.... And I thought I had put it somewhere where I wouldn't lose it........ Jeez....
HUGE!!!!!! THANKS!!!!!! To 1986Quadracer, Patrick, he sent me the lower ball joint I needed!

I'm gunna have to get stickers made of everyones's username to put on this machine. Y'all are like sponsors for a special Olympics race team lmfao!!

Waiting on the shocks and spring to get here from All American, then gunna instantly send the rear shock to Mr. George over at Suspension 101 to get some magic done.

But that's ALL banking on if Ol Ugly sells....

Speaking of stickers:
Not only do I need usernames made into stickers, but either a large Heinz 57 or Heinz 87 as a name badge sticker.

What sounds better: Heinz 57 or Heinz 87?
