High Rev Vibration
« on: February 01, 2016, 04:30:58 pm »
Let me apologize in advance because this topic has probably been done before, but I'm having some nasty vibration at high revs.

Does anyone know what can be causing this other than the normal cause (the crank, drive gear, and counterbalancer punches)? I'm fairly convinced that it's not these things because I've sheared the counterbalancer woodruff keys before and the vibration is very distinctive, more like rumble that makes your teeth chatter. What I noticing on my bike is that at high revs the bike vibrates intensely to the the point where it's hard to hold on. Other than the high rev vibes, I can put around all day on the bike just fine.

Oh, and it's not just normal two stroke vibrations, I jumped on my Banshee and the vibration difference at high revs was very noticeable.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone can point me in the general direction...

If all 3 of your alignment marks are lined up and correct and your key is not sheared which you are saying they are, I'd see if anything is broken or loose, like the motor mounts.

It almost looks like when everything is lined up, the counterbalancer is a hair off from BDC.

I've had the counter balancer timing be off before.  I'm not sure how far off it was, but the vibration was horrible.  The vibration was so bad that it would hurt my hands to hold the handle bars in the upper RPMs.

On the counter balancer timing, did you make sure everything lines up?  There are marks on the gears and one on the shaft.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I have now joined the ranks of those who have missed the third punch. I had the gear shifted one spline over.
