SRARTING FLUID?
« on: January 30, 2016, 06:53:34 am »
z runs great! hard starting winter and summer while poundind w/ my 200#'s and have owned many 2 strokes so its not me! lol stock mikuni 38. just noticed very small squirt into carb intake fires right up on one kick every time! will this hurt since only short squirt and only when starting! i've replaced jets 30, 420 w/ ave temp in 20's michigan level, cleaned carb thoroughly, adjusted slide and throttle adj, float needle seat real good, needle clip 3 down, reeds great. always follow z starting procedure key off, choke open, 5-6 kicks w/ throttle wide open and tried closed, key on choke closed. fart, fart, fart until starting fl. shot half squirt w/ filter off. filter on or off makes no different when trying to start. any help much appreciated! almost fed up enough to go w/ new carb! i'm sure its something simple but what have i overlooked? thanks steve

ignition timing mark, dead on. ignition coil checked w/ adjustable thx 404 tester w/ spark at 12mm, manual states 8mm.  compression must be ok since the power is scary quick and powerful whipping raptor 660 with ease! the stator gap at 30mm. carb float needle and seat looks good w/ no wear yet carb parts warehouse is sending a new set since they suspect this might be the problem. their also saying if that doesn't work there's a very small jet in the bottom of the carb bowl that helps w/ gas flow?

Have you tried it w/o that starting procedure? Could it be flooding it?
This isn't my machine but I can't recall anyone not just turning the key and going.

I believe its the crank bearing seal that popped out. not sure when it popped. From what I've been told from this forum that could cause loss of pressure. I'll get it back together this weekend w/ seal blue locktite in. and try again.

Check the source coil on the stator  Sounds electrical to me.

Starting fluid will destroy 2 strokes and only make probs worse.

Is your gas old and what kind you running?

I have a new stator 130w I plan on installing soon w/ pulse coil installed for the new 72w led light bar. 32:1 synthetic super technicplate. I have slight movement in crank shaft possibly causing crank bearing seal to pop out w/ thick oil blowing into flywheel area. This just happened in between starting the quad  ''once'' because I had just checked the flywheel before the one start up. I'm thinking the bearing pocket play caused the seal to pop out. Fortunately I checked right away before riding w/ seal out! Any chance the hard starting is from the bearing wobble? I'm sure the seal was in up until the last start up so I don't think the seal could have caused hard starting (for so many months) or since I bought the bike last July. My bigger problem now is with a possible motor tear down to have new bearing races installed!

Hey right foot killin ya lol anyway this is my secret use ur gas tank vent tube take a normal oil cap fill it twice with gas from tank not straight gas lol remove spark plug dump both cap fulls of gas into cylinder put plug bak on an it shld fire rite up if it starts but doesn't stay running u have a fuel delivery issue cause once it runs the compression shld pull the fuel rite out of the carb. Enjoy the ride

Starts now on first kick every time!
#1 Gas turned on. Prime kick 5 times with key off and choke closed.
#2 Key on, choke still closed, without giving any throttle because you now have the perfect fuel air mix already in the the cylinder! Now here's the kicker lol. Most important part! Theirs 2 bumps you'll feel while slowly kicking down, which is where the piston is TDC. Just after the first bump, just before second bump, bring kicker all the way to the top, then give a full stroke diving all way through and BAM! The reason for starting just after first bump is that you'll get a full 360 deg. rotation from flywheel, giving you the most spark possible considering everything along the fuel air flow is at correct settings. Great feeling when you can rely on a great start, especially when you have others watching and waiting ''on your ass'' anxiously anticipating with adrenaline geeking, to RIDE! Instead of everyone waiting on you while your kicking to the point you look up and everyone gave up on ya and your left kicking away feeling so left out AGAIN! Believe me, I know the feeling! lol
