These bikes may be competitive by themselves. Some will disagree to that statement. But with that being said unless these bikes start doing 70+ mph up the hill. They aren't that fast.

HottButta:  That was a Matt Shearer built Banshee (of course the thing is going to scream), and Matt will have to respond on what was in it.  Matt was out there and had a few toys with him.  That guy video bombed our race..... lol!   But hey! It was a really nice bike.... but Banshees are a whole 'nother level.   I will post some pics tomorrow of some other Banshees that were there.  One trick purple one was from Wild Card Racing.  We waited a few hours for that one to run against someone, but no one took the bait while we were there. He was changing the gearing anyway.

Mad Max:  I offered to put stakes up (at least for a clear finish), but I didn't have time to stop by Home Depot as it was totally an after thought.   :-\ I was told that it was supposed to be fun anyway and it's not that serious.  But I think you can tell by the posts how serious this matchup was.

Stpltn250r:   Matt Shearer had a radar detector out there, but I don't think he was ready for the sudden "single pass" that happened either... so we don't have a reading on the speed of their run.   :-\   Matt.....?

Buckeye513:  THERE WAS ONLY ONE PASS MADE WITH DALE.  RK made a few runs later with Jaime and Kennerz on the yellow 500's, Aaron on the black HPR 500, and also with some dirt bikes.  And actually, Jaime beat RK at least twice.

Most races like this that I have seen over the years are not with lanes or stakes (but I have seen lanes at Glamis on Thanksgiving weekend). Most often it is not a competition for money or trophies, with sponsors, advertising or announcers.  This is just two guys who are trying to prove who's bike is faster based on the builder.  Guys like this line up all the time at every dune hill out there.  It's all for bragging rights.   D?   And yes, usually guys will make several passes when they race.  I have never seen a race as big as this one where both bikes are running good and one guy just gives up.   [|]  After that one pass, RK went back to his group, took his helmet off, and called it a day.  Dale rolled over there to find out what was up, and even offered to make it best 3 out of 5 passes - but Robert refused.  Imagine what it was like for the spectators knowing you drove 5-6 hours for ONE 15 second run?  We were in complete shock and as spectators .... felt gyp'd.

No one can trash talk Dr. Q's stuff - he builds good bikes - and others do too.  and if we don't watch what we say, this thread will be closed too.  We don't want that.

Mitch? Is there a way for you to just delete certain posts?

thanks for the info. SandFox.  I really wish I could have been there.  It seems like a lot of people are on one side or the other which is too bad.  I was under the assumption that everyone was going to camp together, party together, dune together and then race.  that's how it should be.  If I lost I wouldn't just keep racing either.  I would make another run for sure but from what you said it sounds like Q wanted to race again on Sunday.  I guess I just relate a lot of this to drag racing.  If you loose you are eliminated until the next round of races.  there are qualifying sessions where you make runs, tune and then you get to the finals.  it's a proven system and just because one guy looses one time doesn't mean he won't win the next.  one race doesn't determine who is the best of the best forever.  seems like everyone takes this stuff way too seriously.  these should be friendly battles.  I don't understnad why so many people bring up other issues and hold grudges when reality is that it takes the fun out of riding/racing.   D?

I appreciate the post sand fox threw out there. Another post made it sound like Dale didn't want to race Q, but it really sounds like a case of bad timing.

Man that must have been pretty devastating for Q to get ruined enough to not want to race Dale again. Long drive for one pass!

Well now is the time to regroup, do more testing. Thanks for the post sand fox!

The racing up the hill was on radar. You think Matt made it out there on this "BIG" race and not see how the competition stacked up. The race video with the banshee smoking everyone to the top was in fact a 485 PV motor(pretty sure) and the radar was reading mid to low 50's on mph. If these motors are supposed to be 70-80hp bikes. Why are they so slow?

How much experience do you have riding in the sand dunes?  The sand is an absolute HP robber.

well, You would have hear from me, but Mitch banned me until after the race.

Everything posted is true.  We were all shocked on the one run, only RK can speak to that. The bike was having teething pains, but it is what it is.  Fact is Jaime's bike ran quite hard and was only about a length or so off of Dale's bike. With my extreme weight handicap my bike ran well enough to at least have some runs.  All in All it was an awesome trip. THe Duning at Dumont is epic. Dale's bike was sweet, as is Zelda.

It really was a tuner's who's who. With Shearer, wildcard racing, JH, & Q bikes all hitting the hill.  The comment made about the 500's being comparatively slow is soo true. The fastest 500 was in the high 50's, Shearer's turbo Banshee's where cruising up the hill in the 70's MPH just on tuning runs capable of 90's.  The Turbo banshee's are some of the sickest machine's I've ever seen in the dunes, the sound alone is incredible. puts things in perspective for sure.

The main case in point on the 500's is it takes alot of effort to be fast with a 500 & the amount of time & money it takes just to be a little faster isn't worth it IMHO. I say build them to where YOU like it and the bike doesn't break and be happy.

The trip we had was only about 10% about the Dale/ Q race; the rest was all about awesome riding, excellent food, enjoyed with a top notch group of guys. The fun factor was off the chart. Dale & Bonnie & the LV crew really missed out on Sat. nite's cookout.

There really is no need to keep the hate going, the glue that binds us is an love for these great old bikes and getting out and RIDING them.

Absolutely none. But with that being said. A prepped watered down track should not be any different. Hopefully April 6th I will be seeing the dunes first hand. Well what LA has to offer anyway. I will than know how the two compare. But its not like what I said is not true.

Stpltn 250---The sand really is very different from any dirt wet or dry.  Its amazing the power it seams to suck out of your quad.   Hope you can get out to the sand and play some time.   You can experience it for yourself but more importantly you can have the funnest time of your life on your quad.

If your ever coming through Utah head out to Utahs little sahara dunes by delta.  The riding area is about the size of Glamis /Gordon wells ( i think that what its called) and we have the tallest dunes in the USA,  The good and the bad is other than easter weekend there is no one there.  That means you dont have to worry about getting run over but part of the fun of duning is seeing others and their toys.
If they can't kick start it--THEY CAN'T RIDE IT
