DCS pipe w/ FMF silencer??? Possible??
« on: April 23, 2013, 07:52:49 pm »
Mitch, is it possible to make the DCS pipe to work w/ the FMF turbine core silencer?  Just curious, because it's an available silencer from FMF and it is spark arrested.  Many states require the sparky, and I think w/ time, most/many or even all riding areas are going to be going that route.  Just curious if it's that much different to make it for the FMF....??

How hard would it be to slip on some wire mesh over the exhaust, zip-tie it on, and call it a spark arrestor?
Does it have to be an approved spark arrestor, or will anything that does the job be adequate?

If you come to SL, I think the DNRE will set the tree huggers loose on you.

What are they going to do, put flowers in the exhaust or something?

Mine come with a Spark Arrester (Removable) Most BLM just poke the silencer with a small stick to check it has a screen or not.

Ok... is it an approved sparky?  I know the FMF ones are USFS approved... to ride in Maine you must have a USFS aprroved sparky (they look for the stamping)... they also require a 96 db.... the turn down tip may help, but I would just pay the fine for noise, but you goota have the sparky....
I just think this would be an attractive route to go w/ the DCS pipes for those that are under tighter restrictions...and I think they aren't going to get any looser w/ them in the future....
Just a thought... not sure if it's a cost viable option to design it to run w/ the FMF or not...

If you want to run an FMF, it would be a matter of changing the mid pipe. You can have a local custom bike shop do the work for you as long as they have the equipment to fit and weld aluminium.
Success only come before work in the dictionary.

How hard is it to stamp words on an aluminum silencer?
I've never bothered to find out...

What about using one of the sparky slip on I think by Answer. I talk to Shearer and he said they work well on his pipes. I was looking something that was approved usfs. They can be tight a holes here. I know this isnt one of shearer pipes. But just might work
