lt250r current production pipe poll
« on: October 16, 2013, 06:48:22 pm »
So gonna be in the market for a few pipes so started doing a little research. Reading a bunch of reviews calling a bunch of shops. So lets start with a list and prices. All these prices are full pipes including silencers and factory finish.
1. SCP- Matt Shearers pipe said to be one of the best all around- factory finish $495
2. Dynoport- recommended by Carl for mx- $325-$450 depending on the finish
3. Aaen- been around for awhile, said to be used by flat trackers?- $325
4. PT- Duncan racing pipe aka PTR a few people seem to really like it- guess it is a awesome pipe for the 250r's - $435
5. Dr. Q- Unfortunately I hear decent things about that pipe.-I think he charges $450
6. CT - $420
7. FMF- good ole fmf found a new full system on ebay- $300

Those are all CONFIRMED and still in production.
Called FTZ they said they are down on making 2 stroke pipes for a few months due to moving into a new shop and there swamped right now. Ill get ya'll an update on them in a few months.
Still trying to get ahold of Alan at LED (old LRD) to see if he is interested in making a pipe for our bikes again.
I still need to look into PSI, heck are they even still in business?
I'm not putting MHR anywhere on the wait list or pipes for sale at this time because he has himself in a little bit of a hole right now that I hope he can get out of but I don't see it coming anytime soon.
That being said go vote up in the poll what pipe you guys like!
Also next year after this winter a pipe shootout with dyno testing will be done. Im gonna test as many pipes for yall as possible.  +k2

I have the shearer pipe on my 250, its a good high rev pipe but it seems to have a dive in the power band that makes shifts confusing, I can never decide to shift before the dive or keep it above the dive.  2c

That could be a jetting issue or maybe a Exhaust Valve adjustment.  Hi^

414, my jetting is good for the most part, from what ive been told its normal for the scp,and the bigger the bore becomes with good porting the more the dive goes away D?

I deal with it on mine out on the track. It drops out of the pipe in the turns.

Funny! Since SCP is making them, why are people calling them Q's pipe too? I understand Q came up with the design for v1, but after that model SCP took over the manufacturing and design of the subsequent pipes. Oh never mind, it's kind of confusing to me. This happens more than I'd like to admit. Lol

I run the Aaen pipe on my 87 and am very happy with it. Pulls good especially mid/top but is great on the trails as well.Decent MX pipe as long as its not a sand or tight track.Dirt, hardpacked, flat works real good. Sand MX tracks combined with 38mm carb and a lot of tight turns=constant shifting and falling of the pipe every turn. Was just out on the one sand MX track last weekend and once chewed up was shifting constantly and still falling off the pipe and lagging bigtime.Maybe a gear change may have helped a tad.Mind you pretty much all smaller CC quads struggle on that particular track :(. Definitely gonna try the 500 next time.
