Quick head gasket question
« on: January 07, 2013, 06:25:24 pm »
Hello, new to LT250r's and new to not being able to find parts anywhere, so I have a quick question.

Where do I find oversized head gaskets for the LT250r? I just bought a beater to restore and had the engine bored and honed to accept at 69mm piston, but I can't find a replacement head gasket anywhere (the ones I can find overlap into the cylinder about 1mm.) Can I reuse the stock copper head gasket and just Dremel that badboy out?

I'd rather buy an oversized 69mm or 70mm head gasket, but I can't seem to find one anywhere.  Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for this great resource, it's a huge boon for me so far!

The stock head gasket  goes from stock 67 mm to 69 mm.You dont have to find and special one for it.The ome is the one you need.It already accepts the 69.mm bore.Mine is bored 69mm with stock gasket. They over size them to finally bore from the factory. But if you go to a big bore  you would have to have a different gasket but that is when you put a bigger sleeve in the jug. The lt250r is not like the Yamaha blaster and you don't  have to size up the head gasket to the size of the bore. Are you sure it 69mm.I just bored mine and the gasket fit just fine with no overlay.

I should have been more clear. The aftermarket gasket overlaps into the bore, I haven't tried the stock one yet, but I found it in a box of parts.

Thanks for the info. OE gasket it is.

The only thing I see one the Cometic website is this:

http://www.shopengineparts.com/productdetails.aspx?emid=184&cid=129&pid=10773&vtype=ATV&make=Suzuki&model=LT250+L+-+%2887-92%29&type=model

The description says its 69mm. Is this what I need or do I need to go up to 70mm?

Stock gasket goes up to 69.mm.I just rebuilt my top end to 69.mm i used the stockIt has no overlay when on.I can send you an old ome  head gasket. You wouldnt  be able to run it or anything,But you can put it on your jug to see if their is any overlay. If you want.I talk to my local suzuki shop part guy. When i rebuilt this to make sure that i wouldnt  run into this problem.I knew the blaster took different headgasket for their  bore  size .So I wanted to make sure of this when i did my topend. Their isnt a better head gasket then ome.May be aftermarket kits are size like that but the ome isnt. You cant run a 70mm headgasket the largest bore size for the lt250r is 69mm unless you get a larger sleeve which contains machine work to do that.I will send you one in the mail if you want to check it.I went from .40 which is a 68mm to a .50 which is 68.25 to .80 which is 69mm. I used oem head gaskets on all three bore sizes. Th ome will work fine trust me.
