Alright guys,
Got to fire up my year long project and was able to start it fine several times. then today I put it into gear with the clutch pulled in it was still moving (poor clutch adjustment job) then let out the clutch and was moving VERY slowly without giving any gas then all of a sudden it died and will not start back up. I have fuel, spark, and compression I plan on pulling the clutch cover and looking at the timing, woodruff key and clutch tomorrow.
Is there anything else that I should look at?

Alright, well I got some good news. I pulled the cover off to find a sheared woodruff key. Just the end that would hold the counter balance gear in place. got a new one ordered and it should be taken care off in a week or two depending on shipping times.
well I got the new woodruff key in place. and attempted to start it and got nothing out of it besides a few sputters. We then tried to pull start it. By doing this the bike came to life but it ran VERY low rpm and would not stay running on its own accord.
When I took the motor apart to get at the old woodruff key I had the bike on its side and the oil still in the crank (trying to keep the oil) and the counter balance shaft fell towards the stator side of the motor which allowed the oil all over the stator. could this be preventing the bike from running?
Sounds like time to reseal the engine! You shouldn't have to tip the bike on its side when you pull the stator cover. If your seals are in good condition, the area behind the stator cover would be dry.
Alright, soooo I got it back up and running again..
awfully embarrassed to admit the issue but... it was the damn fuel spigot, when set to "on" I got very little fuel. when set to "res" I got enough fuel. So when I switched it to RES she fired right up and purred like she should. Just goes to show you, check the smallest most crazy things first.

Alright, soooo I got it back up and running again..... it was the damn fuel spigot, when set to "on" I got very little fuel. when set to "res" I got enough fuel. So when I switched it to RES she fired right up and purred like she should.
Should be a really simple fix:
Sounds like your fuel pick up screens are full of crap.
1) Remove the gas tank, dump the fuel in to a jug
2) Once empty, remove the 2 screws holding the petcock in
3) pull the petcock out of the tank, making sure the catch the rubber seal between the petcock and the tank.
4) there should be 2 white/yellowish straw looking things stuck in the petcock, those are your fuel pick up screens.
5) The tall one is the the "on" pick up and the short one is for the "reserve" pick up.
6) Pull them both, spray them off with some brake cleaner or B-12 chemtool
7) Wash out your tank with some of your premixed gas and make sure there is no more crap in your tank.

Reverse the above steps to put back together.
Sweet thanks for the how to glamis. Ill get those cleaned right up and take her off to Florence for the weekend. I think right now shes is running a little rich so I'll also change out a jet while I'm at it. So very excited to have this thing finally up and running. It has been a very long year and a half project.
