FMF Ram intake ?'s
« on: April 06, 2013, 07:18:14 pm »
Got a NICE parts lot today with a bunch of good stuff (basically enough that I've decided I want a big bore engine now LOL) and in it was a stock 88+ intake, a stock 87 intake, a big sno-mo intake gasket ( [|] ) and an aftermarket 88+ intake that has been ID'ed as an FMF Ram intake. Are they any good? Without the insert in it it looks a bit larger than the stock intake and has bigger reeds (it's only 4 big squares reeds on the FMF piece vs 6 small reeds on the 88+ one) and they are a GOOD bit stiffer. I know when I went to stiffer 2-piece reeds in my blaster it made it run a little harder (could have just been the fact that I replaced the stock '98 reeds with some new ones lol). Any input guys?

I have had alot more luck out of the carbon fiber reeds.I put the stocks in with boyesen replacements just made my motor super rich.  They weren't stiff enough for my set up. But those new super stockers that boyesen make for the stock cage look like they would work good also since their carbon fiber.I was thinking about trying them out myself. But all you can do is try fmf out and see what they do. Might be able to put the boyesen pro reed on the fmf cage just doing some trimming on them.It might work real well then.It does have some big flow holes in it.

If your going to use the fmf cage make sure you use that insert...without it doesn,t work properly because of the turbulence created by the steeper angle. My 87 250 came with that setup and worked ok.I,ve since went to a HPR V-2 setup but its the 87 5 bolt.
Can,t fix stupid.:)

i ran a fmf ram valve for years in my 88 500.  tried a stock cage one day with boyseens and it ran better.  felt like it had better throttle response.  now i have v 2's and those run better than the boyseens.  if they were any good you would think fmf would still sell them.

87 fmf ram valve actually has less surface area than a stock cage.  cage is the same as the 88-92 but with the correct  bolt pattern
