88 lt water pump problems
« on: January 21, 2015, 07:52:57 pm »
I recently pulled apart my water pump, slightly, because my weep hole was leaking. Upon doing so, I realized that the spring bearing had sheared off the back metal seal. here's a few pictures, any ideas on how to get it out of the motor without removing the side case?

It's not the side case, just the clutch cover. Mine was like that too the mechanical seal was in pieces.
You have take the clutch cover off, pop the old water pump oil seal out (replace it), and find a socket that fits nicely on the mechanical seal and whack it with a hammer. You have to hit it out from the inside of the clutch cover and install from the outside like it is now.

The water pump shaft bearing is one piece with the cover off drive it out with  a hammer from the the impeller side. Once that is out there is a oil seal in side, pull that out be very care in the next step there is a ridge the oil seal seats against to keep it from going too far in towards the mech seal. DONT BRAKE IT OUT. Find a punch or socket that slides inside the ridge and drive the Mech seal out.
