85 lt250r reed valve question
« on: July 15, 2013, 09:37:30 pm »
So I have the bottom end back together on my complete rebuild and now I'm ready for the top end.  The reed valve was the orginal stainless steel (less the piece that went for a ride with the piston).  I bought a new reed valve (ordered from a local dealer) Problem is the new reed valve is actualy 2 reeds Suzuki P/N 13153-14200.  My cage had only one reed installed.  I Googled the p/n and from what  I see these fit an 87.
looking on ebay Boysen Reeds come two to a package.
So should I install both valves on top of each other or just use one reed?
I don't see how stacking the reeds would seal or does stacking the reeds increase the tension?
FYI on 85-86 motors the reed valve mounts on the cylinder underneath and the only way to change it is to remove the cylinder.  would hate to have to do that on a new rebuild
Thanks for any adivice this is my first rebuild since I was a kid and owned a Hodaka

I'm not sure they would even fit on the older cage. If they do, use 1 reed and the 85-86 retainer. Don't forget to put Loctite on the screws.
