Well, the wife has asked me to write a "Zilla Wish List". I told her she would have a heart attack if she wanted to see everything I want to do. So I just started with the basics for my winter rebuild. whats a good source for the washers and bearing? I have found only one seller on ebay and he didnt have the bearing. I am tring to get as much as possible from one source.
I.e. washers, bearing, gasket kit ( cometic?) . Thanks

Get the AFM gaskets from Cometic, hit up Yuzuha32 for the RM bearing, think HPR and or Bartlett Racing can help you on the Billet Washers.

Head gasket is not Afm the others yes. I Have washers and base gaskets, have to look on the rm bearing I should but may be out at the moment.

Just make sure the Aluminum Billet Washers are made from #7075 alloy or better, any lower grade like #6061 alloy might be too soft.

I dont remember the alloy fairly sure there 7075, but the ones I have here are the same as the ones that have been in my bike for 8+ years. Not run so much the last couple years, but a lot of hard miles on them in the beginning and no signs of measurable wear yet.

Can anyone confirm that they are not needed. To what degree I ask? Sounds logical if the engine is with spec. Old worn out parts and it could be a headache? Anyone?

the definition of a bearing requires no moving parts. it describes a soft metal against harder metal. The soft metal wears instead of the component you are shielding from rotation.

what I am describing is the problem with your fancy 7000 series aluminum. It is the hardest of all the aluminums off the top of my head. So perhaps our silcon infused pistons are hard but what about its wearing specs? will the piston be the bearing? I suspect that's what you will get Sir!

i don't think you understand where the washers go. or i'm reading you wrong. there is only side to side play, really no pressure on them, they just keep the rod centered.

I understand perfectly. You do not. Your bearing is harder than your piston and rod. SOOOOO now the piston and rod is the bearing. The actual bearing however will wear the least. Congratulations you have turned physics inside out. Don't tamper with me .

brass has fantastic wear capability. It is up to the designer to utilize it. It self lubricates I believe. Im not a Encyclopedia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buuuut 2023 aluminum would surely fix your dilemma.

Sublunacy, you are absolutely mis reading this whole thing. There is no physics needed.
SIMPLY PUT.the oem washers are a step design.and use a wider bearing they are case hardnend and thin therefore they egg and break .
The aluminum washers have no step and use a narrower bearing. All they do is center the rod, the rod is centered by the piston and washersup top.
IN 10 years I have only used one set of washers in my engine with no measurable wear.

Sublunacy, have you ever taken apart the top end of a qr? You will see that the thrust washers in question only keep the rod centered on the wrist pin. The needle bearing is what takes the force when the engine is running.
BTW thanks for the help from the other members on here. I picked up the washers, bearing and afm gaskets from Hpr. Cylinder is getting bored now, hopefully have the zilla back together and running by next weekend.

I'm not too smart, but I think that the aluminum washers are alittle softer than the OEM steel ones that they are replacing.

Sublunacy, you are pretty much correct when you say that bearings are a soft metal that rides against a harder metal. This is what the auto manufacturers have been doing for years for engine bearings (lead, copper, & babbit). They are able to handle lots of stress without failure. However in the wristpin application on the LT engine, only the needle bearings spin. The washers just sit there & take up space. They see very little movement.
