LT500 Petcock does have filters
« on: December 28, 2013, 10:02:12 pm »
OK so I couldn't find this information anywhere on the site. I removed my petcock today and ran a new fuel line removing an inline fuel filter the previous owner had installed.
The Petcock has two tubes (main and reserve I guess) and both have filters on them (White parts in the picture). I was going to replace the oring but it looked ok. Also I don't find one listed on the Suzuki OEM parts finder but suppose I could find one similar elsewhere.
Here is a picture.

Yea its one of them parts you have to buy the whole unit. Just like the oring that goes in the brass piece in the carb. You have to buy the whole piece with that part to. Kind of  bull poop they do that.

If you need to replace the internal o-ring, I have had good luck with a P16 15.8 x 2.4mm nitrile o-ring. That will stop fuel from leaking out of the valve around the selector. I have never had problems with the petcock to tank o-ring.

when you do the petcock mod you cut the long tube to the same size as the short one.

Yes it can be modded to feed off both tubes instead of just 1. You will lose your reserve but it flows twice as much. It requires some grinding on the petcock with a dremal, and making both filter tubes the same length. Somone might have a pic of the mod, I don't.

Some quads with modified engines and large carbs or guys running alky need the mod to supply the carb bowl with enough fuel, without using a pump.

A stockish Zilla on gas will be fine on the standard petcock. Just make sure the filters are clean and your gas cap does not restrict airflow into the tank.

Which pingle do most people use? Is a pingle better than the mod stock peacock? Both of my petcocks have the mod done but I've always wondered if pingle is better or not.

Pingle Guzzler is the one most were using. Not sure how much more it flows than a modded stocker.

Are they all the same or is there a specific one for the lt tanks?

You will want the one with the single outlet unless you have twin carbs.

The banshee one has 2 outlets so ill avoid that one. So the bolt holes going into the tank are all universal?

oh and you have to frim fuel tank for it to fit, all you do is cut the center out with a razor blade.

you can get just about any one you like, but you will need the adapter plate if does not have the 2 screw holes.

Well I ordered a new OEM petcock earlier this week. Seems mine wouldn't seal to the gas tank after I removed it. It had a slow leak around it and you can't buy just the oblong seal.  :'(

I did not. I just cleaned it up good and let it dry. I will do that on the new one that I already have coming.

when you do this, do you turn the petcock to the on position and drill out the plastic closing the fuel off? Will this make it impossible to shut the fuel off? If someone can give a clear description on how to do the petcock mod it would be greatly appreciated.

You have to take it apart. Once it apart you will see a stop that wount let it go past and on position you have to get rid of t he stop so you can turn it a 1/4 turn past the on position.  So when its done the new on will be a 1/2 turn from the off

You will run from the "Fuel" position. Just use a dremel to grind the stop out from the metal lever. Do not mess with the plastic barrel inside.

One of the easiest mods to do.  Literally takes about 15 minutes.
