But I also tried to see if the powervalve was working by leaving the bike in neutral and giving it some good revs, I didn't see any movement inside... could this add to the problem of it being rich?

I don't think so but I honestly don't know.

If the PV is stuck open (it's supposed to closed at higher RPM) it will hurt your performance on the top end.
