What is your tried and testing method for installing the case crank bearings? I have a motor project I am working on and want to try to do the install myself.
Side question: I have a crank where the (2) crank bearing fit by hand on the crank. Isn't the stator side crank journal a tight slip fit into the bearing?
stator side is a tight fit. you should need to use a crank installer to get it in. if the crank is in spec.
i use a little bench press to put in bearings. i made up aluminum adapters sized to most bearings. with everything square they go right in.
Another thing I like to do is when pressing bearings onto a crank is to put something between the webs of the crank opposite the rod pin to support it.

I was told to put all the bearings in the freezer for 24 hours and heat the case halves up in an electric oven. the bearings should drop right in.

Yep that's a good way to get the bearings in the case!!
Well I did it -
Put the bearings in the freezer for awhile. I used a torch (saw it in a youtube video) and heated the case up. One side slide right in with no additional force. The other side took some beating but it went in.
Now I need a crank. The one I have, the stator side slides right in - its not a slip fit anymore. This allows too much side to side play when the crank is in the case.
Something that works awesome and gets used alot is a cast plate that you can set on the grill, low of course. A little pb before flapjacks. Ya! Make sure the plate is big enough!!!
