Well I did it -

Put the bearings in the freezer for awhile. I used a torch (saw it in a youtube video) and heated the case up. One side slide right in with no additional force. The other side took some beating but it went in.

Now I need a crank. The one I have, the stator side slides right in - its not a slip fit anymore. This allows too much side to side play when the crank is in the case.
Ain't ever seen it......but I have heard it.
