Looking for a Lt 80 wiring harness
« on: August 07, 2016, 09:04:51 am »
Just bought another 80 but it looks like it was on fire, wait it was on fire. And I need a wire harness, not sure what the guy did but when you try to start it all it does is click the relay under the seat. But harness needs changed, bike is blue and white not sure on the year yet.

And do you need to run all the plastic stuff around motor.

If the starter solenoid is clicking then that means you're getting voltage from the battery, through the harness, to the starter button, back through the harness and into the solenoid. Now you just need voltage across the solenoid.

To see if the solenoid is bad, jump the two big posts on it and see if the starter engages. If it does, then the solenoid is bad. If it does not, then that means that the big wire leading out the solenoid isn't sending power down to the starter, or the starter is bad. You can test the starter by putting jumper cables on it. The hot lead on the post and the ground lead to anything metal on the chassis or engine.

As far as the engine covers,,, yea they are needed. The LT80 is kind of like a weedeater engine. Has a little fan that's powered by the crank that blows air up and over the cylinder and head.

As well as check the voltage when you press the starter button if the voltage is too low it'll act like a bad relay.

Well here is what I found today. I pulled all plastic off of it and the wire loom has a bunch of burnt spots so it's gonna need changed for sure. I found one on eBay for 25 bucks. But I put quad on its side and fuel started to pour out of it. Motor must have been full of it. Put it on grab bar and drained the rest of it out. I also took side cover off on right side where the belt is and it was full of seeds from a mouse, then I find out there is no air filter on it either. but have any of you guys tried the $25 starter from eBay. I wish this thing had pull start on it. Found those for $100 bucks. gonna try to order the stuff this week and see what happens. so what kind of parts do you guys have, anything aftermarket.
Could use a front bumper mine are trashed, and can the chain be adjusted on these bikes, the kawi one that we have has a lot of chain slap and makes some funny noises when you push it backwards. Well I am all over the place with this thread, lol.

$25 starter

I've not tried that starter. The ones I've bought were around 60 bucks. I'd prolly try it.
NO, chain is not adjustable. I drill a hole and fit a chain roller.
Left side is clutch/belt.

Can I use either wire loom I think there are 2 different ones.  The one I need does not have that switch under the plastic on right side. Will that matter.

I just bought 2 Uni's.
I think they will work good.
Harness: only thing I could think of being different may be the connection to plug to the CDI/coil.
You should be able to make it work fine.

Well I got the wrong wire harness, it has a few different ends, gotta send it back and find another one, but I read some where about a fuel petcock mod. What's that?  and will going to a smaller chain give bike more power.

what's different?
Petcock: some use a banshee petcock so it has a real on/off. If the stock petcock runs fuel fine on prime, I plug the vac port and install a on/off valve from auto parts store along with a filter. I put the stop valve as close to the carb as possible. I let the carb can run dry when done for the day.
Chain: smaller chain (I use #40 with 438 sprockets) will roll much easier. I pushed my 80's with 1 finger.

When I get the other harness this week I will try to post some pics. Or just explaine it.
But there is that reset plug. It won't plug into ecm and there was 2 extra plugs I think. I will repost later this week.
Thanks for the help.

Well I sure would like to tell you the difference but harness I got had plugs cut off. So I just fixed old one.
But pit the $30 starter on and this quad fired right up,  $100 quad I love it and Landen loves it more lol,  now I need something to make this thing move better. Any ideas. I know I want the pipe not sure on what one tho. What's best.
Gonna order chain sprockets and another air filter.  And what's the deal with the clutch kit I hear about what's it do.

Glad it's going!
Pipes are a hard thing right now. The old Trinity/Hetrick/CT pipes are the best. A hard find tho.
Don't buy no clutch kit. Motors and clutchs need to work together and IMO no advantage with a stock motor.
We do mod the rear clutch shoes. I take them down to 180 grams each. Everyone likes that.

The JLucky ones are no more. Altho, go to atvconnection and look for 410 customs. He's been in the kids quad section lately.
He made a set. I bet he'd make a set for you. He's a energetic fella, :D

A old thread. You wouldn't happen to have his number. I am sure you will be getting top end this winter. I want that 9hp that ct claims to make.

Oh and how do you know if clutches are going bad or when it's time to change them.

I have no info for him but you can PM him there. Also they said what tie rods they used.
Clutchs:If you are noticing a more sluggish take off/etc, or not, preventive maintenance is the key.
Take both off.
Front: you're looking for flat spots on the rollers. Any lil flat spot= replace. Look for gouging in the roller tracts. Especially if you find a lot of hard packed grease. FYI: only a dab of grease to help hold the roller in is needed for installation.
Rear: looking for the pad wear. They seem to last a long time. Use lil circular motions w/60 or so grit to remove the glaze. Check the sheaves (pull them together). Should squeeze smoothly. Check the rear clutch bearings. I've replaced a lot of them.
:)

Is there any special tools to take off those clutches. This bike is all new to me, so I hope you got enough time to answere all my questions. LoL. What oil do you run, I drained it tonight and it was brown.. I just put 10/40 in it to flush it out. And I took the spark arrestor plug out, I can run it like that right.

Yep. Impact wrench.
The gearbox can run 10-40 fine. 80-90 gear lube is good. When we raced I used atf.
Yes you can run it w/o that bolt.
Glad to help. :)
