CHuckie-that paper looks like MATH---run away!!!!!!
LOL!!! I had to get my math teach to show me how to work out the formula and looked at me crazy when I told her I am building a trike lol
Chuckie, I can help with that kind of stuff...I taught a physics class in HS because the teacher didn't know much of anything.
I'll have to figure out where I left my calculator though LOL
I believe I've pretty much got the front end stuff figured out. I just gotta find out what the acceptable amount of trail is. I'll probably just have it at the stock Tecate measurements an all ya know? I've been talking with people who have rode both the ATC-R and the KXT and they all say the Tecate feels better all around. Except for the crappy rear shock. Lol
Should be getting the neck and triple trees sometime soon. Waiting to cut the frame until after i get the parts in. To make sure the frame doesnt sag down i think i will leave the down tube in it until after i've got the front end tacked up. Then i'll get a cradle bent up and a beefier down tube fabbed in. Then i'll have to find somewhere to send the frame to get finished welded.
Two big hurdles right now are the tank and pipe. The pipe is just a matter of finding someone that can make a pipe to fit the custom frame that wont get into the front tire. The tank is a matter of finding one that flows with the seat right, isn't ridiculously hard to find/expensive and that has the inside pocket/latch/things in the front. I'll give the tanks that iceracer said a look over to see how they would fit and work.
That front end is off an 89 RM250.
Ok for tank options im thinking of either an 81 RM250 or 82 YZ250 tank. Since I am going with the early tecate (85) front end with the radiator on the triple trees i dont need a tank with scoops and imo, big scoops like water cooled tanks have would look kinda REALLY weird with no rads in them
Right up your alley, Chuckie...
A fuel pump would probably be needed with that trike there.
Dude with the triples and steering neck won't get me a shipping total together
just hook up a kegorator pump and fill up that bad boy with some frosty beer and ill pedal that trike all night!
Get on him!
Said he's off next week and will try and get it cut up for me. REALLY wanting to get to working on this one. I wanna cut the front end off a bike soooooooo bad,,,,,,,
I've been thinking about a lot more custom touches I can do to it. We shall see what actually happens though

ive ridden all 3 of the jap 250 trikes and the IMO the r hands down is the best all around. it just does everything well compared to the other. whether you want to ride it like you stole it or recreational ride. by the time kawi brought the kxt, honda was already on their 1st update to their 2 generation race model. if you compare the 85's, honda was way ahead of the game as a complete package. i have not ridden either generation kxt in the sand but i would guess that the fat tire on the 1st gen kxt would very well in the soft stuff, assuming that from the feel of the 82 250r in the soft sand.
After talking with several KXT and R owners I learned that the honda's forks are prone to blowing and don't feel 'right' compared to the kawi's. And Honda just copied what Ace Williams was doing to his bikes to get their stuff straight lol
As quoted from a KXT and an R owner (same guy) 'There's a reason the Kawasaki doesn't need a $1000 short track kit like the Honda'
When I used to have my old 85 T3, I could never even keep the front end down. It was a completely different animal than the 82 ATC 250R airfooler that I used to ride when I was younger.
U r correct Brian different animals but they both have those ballon tires up front that float real nice in the sand.

Maybe the 250r blows the seals out more often is bc it can be ridden harder...

Either way, they are both opinions and i still think you have an awesome project going on.
Lmao probably so. Damn t3 flywheels going like nukes!!! I'm getting a PVL for my 250 and I'm gunna play with it on the quad. If I like it I'll throw it on the trike. Still gotta get a top end and get a pipe made and find out what tank to use and sooooo many other things it's ridiculous. But I'm sure with other peoples help it'll get built and all. We'll see. I'm really stoked to get this one together just because to my knowledge it's not been done before. I know Eddie Sanders ran a 250 Suzuki trike in 83/84 but it was an RM conversion with a Nicholson built frame. This Suzuki will be a LOT like an 84/85 Tecate and will be just as short. It's basically gunna be a yellow Tecate. With a power valve, and a cast iron sleeve. It's gonna be interesting.
Another reason I'm going T3 is because Tecate forks are a lot cheaper than Honda forks for some reason. The most expensive thing is the damn front hub holy crap!!!!
ive already told you i have a nice ported top end in the box waiting for a new owner.
Yea but I don't have the nice $$$ to get it right now :-/
HOLY CRAP I GOT A BIG SURPRISE TODAY!!!!

Big piece of the puzzle in!
Just gotta get a front end now
Chuckie I don't recall any fork seal problems on my 85R..the 84 kxt needed the cases under the stator epoxy coated to seal up porosity, and a new stator after awhile. Kxt had nasty head shake in the whoops compared to the R... Tecate was faster up comp tho
Dez you've had some AWESOME bikes!! I'm going to set the rake at the "magic" number i got from a trike builder (Jason Hall) and hope the trail is right.... lol But it should be dang close,,, close enough for what i will be doing with this bike which is mostly trail riding and playing on the sand bar/dirt road.
BIGGEST reason for going with the KXT front end was radiator mounting location.
I just gotta get the rest of the front end parts so i can get this beasty cut up!!
