Have to agree on the sand part.No dunes around my area but going through pure sand in an old gravel pit is completely different than wet mud.You really gotta stay on the top of the pipe or you go no where.

Everything posted is true. We were all shocked on the one run, only RK can speak to that. The bike was having teething pains, but it is what it is. Fact is Jaime's bike ran quite hard and was only about a length or so off of Dale's bike. With my extreme weight handicap my bike ran well enough to at least have some runs. All in All it was an awesome trip. THe Duning at Dumont is epic. Dale's bike was sweet, as is Zelda.
It really was a tuner's who's who. With Shearer, wildcard racing, JH, & Q bikes all hitting the hill. The comment made about the 500's being comparatively slow is soo true. The fastest 500 was in the high 50's, Shearer's turbo Banshee's where cruising up the hill in the 70's MPH just on tuning runs capable of 90's. The Turbo banshee's are some of the sickest machine's I've ever seen in the dunes, the sound alone is incredible. puts things in perspective for sure.
The main case in point on the 500's is it takes alot of effort to be fast with a 500 & the amount of time & money it takes just to be a little faster isn't worth it IMHO. I say build them to where YOU like it and the bike doesn't break and be happy.
The trip we had was only about 10% about the Dale/ Q race; the rest was all about awesome riding, excellent food, enjoyed with a top notch group of guys. The fun factor was off the chart. Dale & Bonnie & the LV crew really missed out on Sat. nite's cookout.
There really is no need to keep the hate going, the glue that binds us is an love for these great old bikes and getting out and RIDING them.
Ken I appreciate your post... You and I both know it was a strange and awkward situation after the one run..... glad you other guys got in the mix and hit the hill .....and I don't know why Matt Shearer felt the need to show up except to maybe rub in his obviously fast machines and claim he can and is building a better LT500 than the current players out there.. we all want to see it.... These 500's will never be in the league with the balls-out banshees,.. their overrides and turbo motors... whatever.
I have alot of respect for you Dale and Ken.2 classy posts.
So awesome to see the continued interest and advancement in these old dinosaurs. Nice to see Shearer throw his hat in the ring too... Hopefully, he'll find time put something out soon, maybe even his own port and pipe;)

Sounds like its gonna be a good runner Chris. from talking to Matt sounds like it will run very well. He knows what hes doing. If his turbo banshee puts down 180-200hp and his caracal putting down way more than that. I'm sure he can build a hard running single. He does have a pretty bad ass honda single cylinder. Just saying.
