I have a .60 over 500 with stock ports. It came with a DG. Ive been eyeballing the newer aaen. I read all this pipe talk everywhere but it sounds like everything is ported. I have had ported 500s before and Im interested in just improving a stock engine this time. Also i don't really care to spend dr.q and hall prices.

Even a FMF will make your bike new after having a DG on there.
The newer AAEN are decent pipes and are only around 360 new. Good for any budget build.
Honestly, why not just go with one of the big dog pipes (unless money is an issue)? At least that way, if you ever decide to make your motor more radical, you'll already have the best pipe on it.

I ran with a guy that ran a Hall pipe on a Supposedly Stock cylinder and it ran strong.
I like Q2W's idea of getting a good pipe now that way if you want more later it's just porting.

I have a dyno port mid-top pipe on my stocker. Seems to run pretty good. But I have nothing to compare it to.

Don't forget the Paul Turner or Lrd if you can find one, if you're close to Arlen he may still have the stampings.

Get the AAEN, it is one of the best budget pipes. The big dog pipes are better, but you are paying for them.

I mostly trail ride. I don't want to loose low-mid power. What about paul turner?

Man, you wont feel any power-loss down low with one of the big dog pipes.

I ran a AAEN pipe on my stock cyl 87, it didn't have the low end of the previous fmf that was on it, but was much better mid and wayyy more top

I have HRD porting by Mike Stiener. I have ran a FMF, Q V2 and Hall #19 on the engine. There was no loss of bottom end when moving from the FMF to the better pipes. The difference between the FMF and the other two pipes is incredible.
It is very hard to mail that money order for the high end pipe but, man, is it worth it. I have never regretted spending the money. I recommend saving up and buying a good pipe. It is the single largest performance gain you will get for the money.

You also went from an FMF to a JH, JH does not have a lot off bottom end loss. You will see more bottom end loss with Aaen (Q pipe copy) & Q pipes, especially V-1.

I have a paul turner and really like it.
If you can get one at the price you want, go for it

My progression was from the FMF to a Q V2 to the Hall. The V2 has good bottom end. The transition from low end to mid-range is much smoother on the Hall but no problems with the V2. You could trail ride a V2 without issue.
I should add that my Dad's 500 has the same engine set up as mine but is running a Q V1 pipe. I does have a lack of bottom end. I would not recommend it for trail riding.

yea the Qv1 comes on much later than the others, like 5300 RPMs if i remember right.

I seriously doubt that you'll feel much of a difference between the others and a FMF. It's less than 1k RPM. Could of been a jetting issue.

I went from a PT to a Qv1 and had no issues from trailriding to MX with the Q pipe although everyone is different I guess. The 500,s have enough torque down low that if you loose a little its still manageable but that's just my .02.

That's right. I am not saying it won't work for all around riding. However, if I was going to buy a pipe, and I primarily rode trails, it would not be my first choice.

I have an old Paul Turner pipe in my garage that I could sell ya, if you are interested. It was originally painted black, but had gotten rusty so I removed all the paint and rust with a wire wheel and re-painted it with high temp aluminum paint. I also have an almost new FMF Turbine Core spark arrestor that fits with the PT pipe. I can get some pics later if you are interested. Let me know.

If you're bike still has the DG on it, get ready for a rocket ship!

Don't forget to jet for the new pipe.
I too had a DG at one time...

I bought a paul turner, but a buddy of mine kept telling me how nice his 500 was when he had a Q1. So I bit the bullet and ordered a Q2. I will let you know what I think soon.

For the money any High Grade Pipe Upgrade will be the most bang for the buck bolt on you can get, Either Hall, Q, Aaen will be a night and day difference from FMF or a DG
