Hello this is a stupid question but I need the help. Which way does the nut turn to come off on the clutch basket? I ordered my tool and got the washer flatened back out so once I get the tool I don't want to break anything so is it the same as all rightie tightie, lefty looseie or does it turn to the right to come off? Thanks in advance as you all are so great on here with awsome info.
Even though it does not specify, From the manual, and the position of the holding tool, it looks like the nut is removed by turning counterclockwise.
I seen that in both my manuals as I have the original service manual, and the clymer, but it doesn't tell you in either one which way to turn it to come off. Thats why I was hoping someone has done it on here before. You would think they would have an arrow or something showing you which way to turn it but it don't, and I don't want to go messing anything up on it, but I have to take the clutch basket off to get to the counter balance gear so I can get the key replaced or see if I have to replace the whole thing. Thank you for the input I just hope someone can let me know within a few days as I'm still waiting on the clutch tool, so should be here wensday so as long as I know by then I'm good lol.
Agree that it would be good to hear from someone that has just done it to verify.
But, further down in the manual it discusses removing the Primary Gear Drive Nut, and it specifies that it is a LEFT hand thread.
So, it would make sense that the manual will only make a reference to a thread direction when something is Other-Than-The-Norm.
So, with this thinking, the nut on the Clutch basket is normal Right Hand thread. And that follows suit as to where the tool is placed in the picture.
Good luck with your project.
pretty sure it is left hand thread. make sure to use some locktite when you go back together. when i tore mine down for rebuild the hub nut was barely on, had backed off.
