What is this fitting for on my intake?
« on: March 29, 2014, 03:52:54 pm »
I am in the final stages of putting this bike together and I just realized there is a fitting threaded to the side of my intake. What is it for? I bought this 1987 motor as the PO said it was just built. Everything points in that direction.. So I have no reason to doubt him. He seemed like a straight shooter . The PO built it for drags. I guess I never paid much attention to it before! Wow! My 91 motor does not have this. Thanks

Possibly a fuel pump, is the motor set up for alky?

fuel pump,

It gives a vacuum / pressure pulse to operate a fuel pump.

It won't hurt to plug it right?

You're gonna have a hell of a lean condition if you don't run a fuel pump using that port or plug it.

I believe a plug is in order. I know nothing about alky!

Yeah, just put a pipe plug in. Make sure to put thread sealant on the threads too.

BTW, nifty clutch cable bracket

You like that! I need to pull it and clean up the welds, put some paint on it. The PO made it, it functions great, just needs a little dress up.

Definitely a fuel pump pulse port. My kart cylinders have those and we just block them off with a rubber nipple

What did you do to the motor. Does it need a fuel pump for the way its built.

I haven't done any to it. I bought it like this, I wanted another motor so I could run it while I built up my stock 91 motor. The motor came from a guy who built his 250 into a drag bike. It has a new sleeve, new piston, port work and head work. He sold it because he bought a250r, building a trx250r was a lot easier with more after market parts available.

I talked with him about running 110 with castor 927, like I run in my 500. He said that would work just fine. We never talked about him running alky.

It shouldn't hurt anything running that mix, right? I know nothing about alky set- ups.

If the carb is jetted/built for alky then it'll need to run alky. Probably not set up for that though so you'll more than likely be fine

He kept the carb, it was a lectron. I'm putting a tm38 on it.  I should have it finished today. I'm replacing the needle, needle jet, pilot and main based on ice racers recommendations.

Here's my zilla. It's an 87. I did a complete frame-off last year. I'm thinking I might sell it this summer if I can get the 250 running right. Too many bikes and not enough room for all of them.

I got the 250 fired up. I have jetting and float issues, but she runs. Now I have to figure out the dang air box issues with running the TM38. I used a zilla intake so it fits the motor just fine. The hose between the air box and carb won't fit between the two. I boiled and stretched the carb side to fit, but they just don't line up! Now I'm stuck!

Rem that is defiently a pulse line for a fuel pump. Nbd really pull out the angled adapter and just put in a pipe plug make sure you have the threads good and sealed... even if the previous owner was planning on running alky that wont matter anyways as long as the new carb you have is set-up for the fuel you plan to run. Although if you thought the previous owner ran the motor on alky id pull the head and look for any signs of detination... really the only thing that would change from gas to alky would be the dome size I would atleast double check that b4 spendong the time sticking it in a frame.
