I'm installing a new 22cc pro design head on a cyclinder remanufactured by summit racing. I found them on ebay and sold me a remanufactured cyclinder with wiseco piston, wrist pin, and bearing. I bought a top end gasket already, but it wasn't the one badmoonracing recommended in another thread. So I'll reorder. My question is do I need to have somebody in this forum mill the squash if, the cyclinder is oem spec's and the dome is brand new? I'm all for having somebody do it, if it will make my build last longer, perform better.if I do this, am I limited to using only high octane racing fuel? Many questions that I need answered as soon as possible so I can get to riding this thing.

According to this book, the chapter on combustion http://www.datafan.com/Horsepower_Blog/gordon-jennings-two-stroke-tuners-handbook/
The squish band should be the exact taper of the piston, cover about 50% of the area of the bore, and be between .015" and .060" from the piston at TDC.
With that being said, I've put slot of top ends on 2 strokes, but I'm not an experienced engine builder. Read the book I sent you. It was written in 1973, but I believe this book is why we have the high performance liquid cooled quadracers that we have.

pump gas can cause lots of issues that have be discussed here quite a bit, consensus... it suck. use race gas or av gas to protect your investment.

Will do. I'm dumping way too much money just to trash it from poor fuel.

Head and port design are the two main players on what type of fuel will work best.  Many people just say you need to run high octane fuel in these quads.  That is true for some, but many people seem to be pissing away money.  I always run 93octane in my 500 and never have a problem.

What work has been done to your 500 engine?

A good port job.  The dome for the cool head was cut from a blank to match the bore and the piston.

The blue line is from a series of runs using 93 octane.  Makes good power with just using pump gas.

The motor is open right now because of the tranny issues.  The piston is fine.
