No thrust washers in bottom end?
« on: October 07, 2015, 03:02:25 pm »
I was just getting ready to put my newly resleeved cylinder on when I noticed 2 things I do not like. lol.... First one this engine has been apart for some time I believe... I bought it like this... So I decided to wash the engine out with soapy water before I put it together... I filled up the crankcase with water but it took a long time to fill up. Then I noticed that when I flipped it up on its side that the soapy water was getting into the transmission because it was coming out of the over flow tube. I do not think the 2 are interconnected are they? I know there is a balancer in there but not sure,,, also I noticed that there are no thrust washers on the bottom end connecting rod. I looked on microfiche and it appears that there were 2 from the factory... Any one wanna help? lol

Yes, the two halves of the engine case are connected internally.

"If you have problems with tranny oil (in your case soapy water) being sucked through into the crankcase, replace the clutch side crank oil seal AND the o-ring that is hidden inside the first gear that goes on, closest to the center cases (the one that the balancer gear contacts). The crank oil seal seals between the cases and this gear, the o-ring seals between the gear and the crank, equally important. Dont forget the threads on this side of the crank are reverse, righty loosy, lefty tighty."
