87+ CDI box needed
« on: April 21, 2016, 01:19:45 pm »
So, it looks as though the CDI on my 90 250r has taken a dump.

If anyone has a spare that they would like to sale let me know.

Thanks.

Well I just so happened to tear apart an 88' 250.  I'm not sure if I sent it with the motor to Carl B.  If I did, I told him he could keep it.  But I'm not sure if I sent it with the motor.  If you can get a picture posted so I know what to go looking for...  I'll give it to ya for free as long as you pay for the ride.  I just need a pic so I can find what you are needing.  This community has helped me and I'm just wanting to hook some of you guys up.  HQ ROCKS!!!!!!

It's the black box with 2 screw holes and usually screws into the frame up by the neck where the handle bars come up and the tank bolts to. Has a pigtail coming from it.

I am thinking my cdi went with the motor, but I'll still check.

Hell, if you still have it that would be great! I wouldn't even mind paying for it. A price for a used but good one is still cheaper then the $500.00 for a new one. I have a 85-86 CDI that I know is good but everything that I have read tells me that you should NOT put a 85-86 CDI onto an 87+ motor.

Yeah the cdi is m.I.a.  I didn't find any electrical components, except a tail light.

Thanks, I saw that one and figured it would be decent just because I could add to my spare part collection..
After I dropped that other CDI off at the shop they haven't called me back yet so I'm guessing they were able to get spark and now have to figure out what is actually wrong with it. but I have been wrong before. we'll see what they say first then go from there.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if it was a bad ground.

Well... quick update I got word from the shop and they say that the LT is now up and running again with the other CDI that I gave them which I thought was from the 85-86 LT parts bike that I had. I'll be picking it up this week and giving it a good riding. just a little skeptical if this will work and for how long.

Well took it out yesterday for a quick ride and so far its running great! however I no longer think that I gave them a 85-86 CDI box. Apparently I had 3 of them laying around, 87+ and one 86. I really need to organize all of these parts a bit better. So we will see how this effects these problems that I've been thinking were jetting. Hopefully I'll be able to get some trips in this summer with this thing actually running when we pack up.
