LT500 Airbox replacement Intake
« on: September 22, 2012, 10:32:24 pm »
UPDATE - 7/13/2014 SOLD OUT - TOO EXPENSIVE TO CONTINUE MAKING
Hey guys, I sold some intakes over on the other site.  Those were v1 of the intake out of spun aluminum.  They were pretty nice, but we had a couple start to crack.  So we went back to the fabricator and went with a more expensive route - 6061 billet aluminum.  This v2 intake is quite a bit thicker then the v1 intake, so the weight doubled from the v1 to the v2.  v1 was 7.5oz and the v2 is 15.2oz. This added some cost to the intakes, but the result is a heavy duty intake.

Currently the v2 only comes in original aluminum, but you can polish or powder coated the intake as you want.

We are selling these on eBay for $175 for the kit and $125 for just the intake.  Not cheap, but this is a nice piece of hardware.

eBay Kit listing - http://www.ebay.com/itm/110954728725
eBay Intake listing - http://www.ebay.com/itm/110955608079

I'm going to sell these on this site for $150 for the kit and $100 for just the intake - Shipped.

The kit comes with a 4" x 6" Uni Dual Layer filter and the correct sized Outerwear.

Intake Closeups:

FYI... A couple pictures above were taken before I cleaned up the weld areas on the intakes.

Send me a PM if you interested in purchasing.  Or post up any questions.  I'll get another picture up showing the intake installed.

Thanks,
Larry

nice intake but i dont have a zilla
if you were have problems with the intakes cracking, do you think adding so rubber bushings between the frame and the mounting tabs would help reduce the intensity of the vibration and increase the fatigue life of the aluminum?

That would probably help but the intake is already isolated from the motor via the rubber intake boot. I think the original issue was really a material thickness problem.

Ifs they are all 6061 billet aluminum, you could have them anodized, then dyed to whatever color you want. Plus they wont oxidize or need polishing every other ride.

We were thinking about using a rubber bushing to help with the vibration, but instead just went with a thicker intake and changed to the 6061 aluminum.   Yes, the intake could be polished or powder coated and it should look good for a long time :D

I'm going to take some more parts of my quad and get them PCed black and the intake will be one of those parts.

but the motor is solidly mount to the frame which will still transfer the mechanical oscillations to the intake adapter since the intake is solidly mounted to the frame.

Time will tell.  My intake I got from 500 Fanatic several years ago also broke an arm that had to be welded back on.  We are going to look around for a few washers to help with any vibration.  We'll see.

Cool.

I should think so.  I'm going to tell my business partner that we are about sold out, so the fabricator can create some more.  He now has the jigs setup, so he should be able to crank out another batch quickly.
