Hi all.
I havent been on here in a long time as I havent had much time for my zilla with other projects I have. Just satarted to take an interest again!!
My zilla has a 20 odd year old LRD pipe on it and as I'm sure you all can guess its showing its age...rust, cracks and the like..Ive welded it countless amounts of times tbh. Tho I know, back in the day, these were THE pipe for the 500.
My question is for people on here running some of these 'new age exhausts' (DCS, Q, Hall etc..) is there a significant difference in the power (mid-top) that they are making over the old skool LRD? Would they be a big jump up in performance? obviously considering the price tag also...what I'm trying to say is..would it be worth changing??
I would appreciate any input and advice, and if there is anyone on here that has ran an LRD and now a newer pipe, and can tell me how the two pipes differ in power curve, characteristics etc.. that would be even better!! Thanks.
Talk to MAxxH2o,
He had a LRD/LED on a 500 and it ran pretty good, he'd be able to give you some insight.
Here is what we found in back to back comparison runs on a stock '87 motor... this info is part of the original zilla pipe shootout back in 2010. The LRD actually performs very well.
Ohh Dale your gonna be labeled as that guy that Photoshops dyno results from that Kenners and Quack show
Thanks for posting that print out, puts things in perspective doesnt it??!!. By the looks of it, the old LRD lowboy aint far off these new pipes at all....its really much of a muchness?! They must've really had their heads screwed on back in the day when they designed it.
I'm starting to think that its not really worth the money in changing to one of the newer pipes?...its just so tempting as they look so darn good!!! LOL!!

Probably...but really,... do you think I even worry about that stuff? I proved my point to that crew awhile back.. HaHaHAAAAA

The high end pipes really start to make sense if you also are going to develop the entire engine to a higher level...porting, head, carb. That's when you get your $$ worth.
Look for the complete Pipe Shootout info that was posted on the old LT250/LT500 site if you want to see all the pipes being run back to back on different levels of engine builds. Stock, Q-HRD, HPR Duner, HPR Drag motors. I don't believe that info was ever posted up over here, it's from back in 2010.
Looks like I get to get Mike with DCS-6 for the next hill shoot, to see how it compares to the HPR and Q2
