All my bikes I only run on 'reserve' and have in-line filters and people say that's dumb and it'll screw them up (by running it on reserve all the time). Glad I was doing the right thing anyway,,, even if I do it just because it's no fun to be blasting up a hill and all of a sudden lose throttle when you need it most. THATS REAL FUN ON A 70's 500 THUMPER.
After thinking about it for a couple minutes I came to my senses. I realized that what I said would probably lead me to a blown top end. I drained the tank on position till it stopped.
**** poor flow at the end. Turned on reserve and
**** poor flow. Pulled the petcock and drilled it so it flows on both when on reserve. Just got it together and it flows much better than stock. Took a pick with my camera of the drilled part. I'll post a pick later tonight when I get home. Please forgive my temporary lack of all thought processes earlier.
Fuel seems to flow much smoother when on the reserve mark now.
Is there a seal or gasket in the petcock that should be replaced after taking it apart to do the petcock mod?
There is an o ring between the tank and petcock. I have an assortment so I replaced it. Inside the petcock theres a white plastic washer/seal with a spring washer. Mine looked good so I cleaned it and reinstalled.
