Flywheel Destruction
« on: August 23, 2013, 11:41:44 pm »
so i though this was worthy of its own thread. alot of the stuff ive posted is gone with past so i wanna keep the spirit alive. as well as good information about zillas.

so yeah.

me and my x were riding around in a feild when the motor cut. i could tell it was electical because it still had a boat load of compression. once i got home i tested for spark and felt nothing. well, when i open the flywheel cover this fell out. :) i wish i had more photos but this was years ago. the outter hub is intact, it was the center that was ripped clean from rest of the flywheel

Same thing happened to my 500, damaged the stator too. It seems the gasket went bad and the elements rusted out the flywheel hub.

Every Zilla flywheel will explode if you dont get them welded. Especially once you start adding HP.  I've seen a ton.

I've been through three small hub flywheels in the past 2 years. Weld it or go with a big hub flywheel

for sake of the poor mother who reads this and goes in the garage and welds his fly wheel. DONT DO IT. send it to someone who knows what they are doing, it will need to be re balanced. if you dont balance it, your crank will wobble and cause more bearing issues.....

btw my small wheel flywheel did not break at the rivets nor was it lose. it was a stock motor for the record.
