Did these quads come factory with a key switch/ignition? If so, why would they have a key when you have to kick start them? It just seems bizarre. Was it so people couldn't steal it?
Yes and yes to both question
It's no wonder everybody takes it off.
A key is just extra weight.
And let's be honest, if a thief wants your stuff, no key will stop them. Lol
Never had a key on my 500 for the 10 years i have it.
AC CDI ignition closes to ground to shutdown. All you have to do it cut the wires to either kill switch to disable them.

No, but a large dog & 30.06 or 12ga 3.5" mag will slow them down.

Saiga 12 works well too....
My friends 500 had a key switch and it worked...to annoy you when you've kicked it a few times and forget that the key wasn't on. Haha. 5 minutes later he removed the whole thing.
So what is involved to get rid of it. Do you have to splice wires together? Ground any wires. All I want is a factory kill switch. No key.

Just cut the wires or unplug.
Just leave the key switch on, and use the kill switch. Makes it simple..
dont cut the wires just pull them from the connectors
Whose bike was it that had the key mounted on the down tube, opposite of the pipe?
Where were they mounted from the factory? Anybody got a pic?
The keys were mounted in front of the cross bar pad on the the steering stem and behind the headlight. I'm pretty sure that's where they were placed.
It for safety and LAW it is illegal in Canada to park a vehicle without safe way to prevent someone to start it. If my kid or a kid of my neighbor take my quadracer and get harm or maybe get killed, or do an accident, i am guilty.

Nah the mount on the bar clamps. I've still got my key switch. I can snap a pic when I get home if wanted

AND THIS IS WHY WE SHOULD REJECT SOCIALISM.
Next thing you know if you hurt or kill someone invading your home you go to jail.....wait a minute that already happens.
I live in canada, and I don't run a key on any of my bikes or quads, except the can am outlander and the Suzuki twin peaks, cause they come with a key. It's not law that you have to key, at least not in western canada, if it was law they wouldn't sell dirt bikes with no key switch.

Just TRYING to start quad will kill a kid.
^ truth to that.
My 8 year old little bro thought he'd be cool an try an kick off the 265. Well he weighs 63 pounds. It didn't go over too well. We thought it broke his ankle at first.
