Might be a dumb question, but can I paint over a chromed FMF Fatty pipe with black header paint with success? Reason I'm asking is because I'm too cheap to get the pipe re-chromed and I don't like rust
Hey, I just found out FTZ Racing is located in Cape Girardeau, MO. That's around 50 miles south of my town. Neat
My error, 92 miles that is. For some reason, it felt like 50 miles last time I went down there
soda blasting will remove surface rust off chrome without damaging the chrome.
Well, I guess the question I should have asked is how to keep the chrome from getting rust again? Like, isn't there some clearcoat or protective coating for chrome? I already got most of the rust off with a steel wool and WD40, I just don't want to have to do it again. That'll wear down the finish
Zemmy1985, I'm in Springfield, mo. Where are you? I'm always looking for somebody to ride with.

Q2W, what is soda blasting?
Redwhiteblue, sorry I took too long to reply back. I've been busy with my new place. I am located central-eastern MO, in a little town called Desoto about 40 odd miles south of St Louis
I have chrome parts on my quads and if I know I'm not going to be riding for a while il spray all the chromed parts with wd40 and then before I ride I wipe it off have a nice shines Q pipe now since 08 and not one dot of rust on it
Zimmey1985, if you aware able to make it down to Springfield area, we can go riding at the Beaumont ranch. 20 miles of trails around the perimeter of 10000 acres. Sort of Rocky, rolling hills, camp grounds, dirt bike track, and they got more. I'm friends with the owner Terry. His son has a zilla that he blew the engine. Frames sitting outside on the ground and I heard he has the motor in pieces in his closet. I'm trying to acquire it.
Soda blasting is just like sand blasting, but you are using sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) instead of sand.
You can paint on chrome, but it wont last, best to remove as much chrome as possible before you rattle can it.
Yeah, I decided on living with the chrome and using the WD40 on the pipe when it's not being ridden. I could also use NeverDull as well to clean and protect it at the same time. Redwhiteblue, that sounds like a blast and I've never gone up to Springfield. However, after I get settled in at my new place and get the garage all insulated nicely, I'll probably tear down the 250 to the frame and start over with a proper rebuild. Gonna redo the frame, either rebuild the rear shock or get a new one, possibly new plastic, some wheels and tires, the whole nine yards basically. Definitely focus on the rear shock, frame, and I'll need a new right case cover since the bolt heads broke off. A lot of fun stuff to do
