Hello, I have a 89 quadracer 250, for some reason I am getting a milkshake in my engine. I replaced the clutch cover gasket, all my bolts are there and none are stripped. Have a leak from the bottom of the clutch cover that progresses when running. I replaced the seal the impeller sits on still leaking. Even changed head gasket and still leaking and mixing the fluids. I put a new clutch assembly in and this problem didnt arise until after I did that, Im thinking ive screwed something up and I cant find anything in the manual. Also I dont have a torque spec on the clutch cover bolts, how tight should these be tightened to? Thanks for any opinions or suggestions
I had this problem on my 500 and it was because of the base gasket.
When you done mechanical seal did you replace oilseal on the water pump shaft.
To be quite honest, Ive heard there are supposed to be 2 seals and Im confused whats what. are you refering to the seal IN the impeller? or the black barrel one with a spring around it?
The mechanical seal is the one with the spring.
no, I did not, just replaced the one under the impeller. Is that my problem? also the dealer told me the brass washer on top of the impeller has a rubber coating on it. So if its gone the water will leak through there too. Is this true? bc mine has noting. just a plain brass washer.
I replaced the oil seal in their then changed mechanical seal. Didnt know about washers at the time. After it was all together still weep. So I bought another mechanical seal put it in.still leaked so I bought new washers. Never had a problem since. Il take a pic of washers shortly so you can compare. But my washer were bad and I didnt have water in oil just leaking out of weep hole.
wow, that washer is even called a gasket. damn good info I appreciate it. Now how tight are the case bolts supposed to be to properly seal the gasket against the engine case? should I use threebond around the opening for the water pump in the side cover?
I just get them tight. Oring should do its job no problem.
