Quad is a
**** to start! its a plug (been soaked many times due to failed start and cleaned) has a weak orange/red spark wont start.
Do you have room to bump start it? I hate finding out how out of shape I am but if its gonna start that should do it....
Yea i have room! I hate to seem like a noob!but when im starting an lt250r what way should carb be?Do i apply rev when kicking?
^^^ what he said and get your buddies to push start it....
The plug in it had maybe 1-1.30 min on it.been soaked and dried and cleaned a bunch.Could it be done already?Any sugestions on a plug?
Position on choke and what sort of rev's wile bumping?
Sounds like you keep flooding it.
I would assume I have been. But I dont know if im starting it right as I cant seem to find an answer!Choke position,Rev's while kicking etc.
If when you say revs you mean giving it gas/throttle- I wouldn't as it sounds like your way rich if the plug is wet. No throttle when your kicking it over. None bump starting it either, until it starts to fire up.
Not understanding what you mean by "choke position" but if you asking which sude it must be on and also referring to previous question the larger bell side of the carb goes to the rear of the bike toward the axle. Your slide height on the carb should be seated all the way down in the catb. If your flioding it with no crack of the throttle than the pilot is super rich.
Let us know the set up.
Carb - what kind?
Carb jet sizes
elevation
air temp
porting
head work
pipe
fuel
What is the pickup gap at the flywheel.
Are the electronics in spec?
Gap on the plug
what plug are you using
Alot of things need to be answered yo simulate "us" being there with you to help you out.
Here is my sequence for starting -
50 degree to 90 degree outside ambient temp. Cold Motor
1. Turn Gas On
2. Leave Key Off or Kill Switch Off
3. Turn Carb Choke On
4. Do 3 to 4 Slow Primer Kicks
5. Turn Ignition On
6. Cycle Kicker to TDC
7. Kick Hard
8. Once it starts, feather throttle to keep running, turn choke off
9. After a minute it (she

) will idle on its own.
10. Enjoy sounds of 500 two stroke single.
Have you checked to see if the flywheel firing at right postion.Top Dead Center.May be the dial key has came out and its not firing at the right time.I had this happen on 87 lt250r i bought off my friend. It would want to start and then we pulled it it would almost run.Like it was super rich. But it was the flywheel not firing at the right time.Bought a key and put the flywheel back on and it fired first kick. But you need a flywheel puller to pull the flywheel off.Unless it has spun on the crank from not having the key.Just something to think about if nothing else work that you do.
for the choke which way is on?Up or down?
You haven't told us what carb it is - but since you asking if it's up or down it's probably the stock Mikuni.
Lever UP is Choke OFF
Lever DOWN is Choke ON
Sorry!I havent any idea how to tell the difference on the carbs!
Im almost sure the quad is bone stock!I can take pictures tomorrow and maybe you could tell by the pictures!
Also is there any walk throughs on how to strip a carb down for cleaning and where to put everything back together?
The choke is on when the lever is up.When its down its off.
should it be on or off when starting cold?
The choke is on when the lever is up.When its down its off.
No you're wrong - I was correct in my earlier post.
Lever DOWN choke is on.
Lever UP choke is off.
Pushing the lever down, raises the plunger and makes the mixture rich from the starter jet.

Snap this is for a 250. I was commenting for a 500. My bad......
he might have a different choke lever,
do you have the knob or the choke arm on your carb.
I say buy a carb that has a choke label on it and be done with the whole debacle.
Not a word about resistance testing electronics. Is your spark ok. rebuild carb. test compression. done.
The coil has about 2 ohms of resistance if it is good. Can you make sense of this so far?
Black/Red to Black/White= 375 ohms
Blue to Black/White= 120 ohms
Any less and you either have a weak spark or nothing at all.
