Oil Seals Replaced, Still smoking
« on: April 02, 2014, 07:04:09 pm »
So I recently took my 90 250 out for a trail ride and noticed it smoked like hell and there was a bunch of black goop dripping around my exhaust flange. When I got my bike home, I noticed that a bunch of my stator-side oil seals were leaking pretty badly.

I picked up a K&S oil seal kit and replaced all the seals, and used some Permatex Ultra Grey as well (I read that it's supposed hold up better than blue Lock-Tite). I even replaced the two crank shaft O-rings. After I got everything back together, I rejetted my bike to compensate for the possibility that I was probably jetting it a bit rich last time because I was sucking in air from some of the seals. Got it pretty close, bike was running right, idling, clearing out when I gave it throttle, so I thought all was good.

Well, I'm getting everything ready for a ride this weekend (weather down here took a turn for the better), and I noticed that although the bike is idling great, it's still smoking a ton and I noticed a couple of drips of that black stuff dripping from my exhaust flange.

Now, before I give up and tear everything down again, is there a possibility I overlooked something? Is there something other than the oil seals that might be causing the bike to suck in oil, or is it possible that since I was sucking in so much oil before, I just have a lot of that oily building in my pipe and need to just burn it all out with some pinned hillshots or something? Any thoughts would be helpful.

Also, I'm running 32:1 K2 oil with Sunoco 110 with in a high-compression dome. New plug, new plug wire, and new CDI box.

run it hard to burn that stuff out of it,
life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sidays totally worn out shouting "HOLY SH*T...WHAT A RIDE!"
