Hello, new on here,, if this has been already discussed,,,refer me to the post...Ok I just bought a 1988 Quadracer 250r...I also have a 88 parts bike ...When I checked the bike over I noticed it had the wrong head on it ..it has the 85-86 head but the engine is correct ..The bike runs but doesn't have a lot of compression. I have done some research and found the 85-86 bore is larger ...so does the head seal in the same area..and what about the cc volume..Any one know the differences in the heads...I have the correct head on the parts bike but don't want to open it If I don't have to..the quad is sluggish..and doesn't have much power .I want to address this issue before I go on to any other problems
I would switch heads for sure, the 85-86 head I believe would lower the compression due to the bigger bore( like u said). plus im sure the squish is off. also check your power valve operation, that will hurt the power if its sticking
it may have a rm head on it,
The 85-86 heads fit the 87+ 250?
Yep its on there...just don't know what effect its having on the motor
So your head looks like this?
Ok, just looked at my head..It looks close to the one in the picture...But not exact...It has a bleed port and the nuts are recessed but no mounting boss...It has a casting #e-1 and 008...I guess it could be a RM head might be some kind of aftermarket head ...I just dont know
Ok...GRK Guy said it might have an RM head on it..Well give that man a prize..Thats what it is alright..checked some stuff. the head is off a 87 Rm 250..The casting number is actually 00b e-1...Why would someone use this head. So more questions ...will this hurt my performance or help? has anyone out there done this swap? How do they compare?
well oe head migfht have had some damage and they went to the rm head, maybe they thought it would run better. or give it more compression.
but this has been done before, i have seen it on other sites that have been around longer than this site.
