Does anyone know of a slick way to remove a clutch basket using hand tools? I'm trying to avoid buying "the tool".
Google clutch basket tool
There was one vid using a belt and pliers to hold the inner basket from turning while an impact spun the nut off
An old automotive belt and vise grips can work like Dez said above.
I picked up the Tusk clutch tool a few years ago and have used it multiple times for various projects not all quad related. It's worthy of a spot in the toolbox.
FYI--I did a variation of the belt method. I used a piece of 5/16 rubber fuel line. It fit perfectly (squished) between the basket and the center, plus left a good "handle".
I was trying to replace a basket late this afternoon as well but didn't have a socket big enough for the bolt on the basket. Any idea how big that is? Looks to be about 28mm or so.
27mm. Thats what the zilla is.

Excellent - thanks for this. Gonna need to pick one up tomorrow to have on hand
If you have any plumber or pipe fitter buds, tell them you need to borrow a 14" strap wrench
No problem bro. I always just use a 3/8 butterfly impact and a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter. The 3/8 butterfly has a max tq of about 50ft lbs so i think that works nicely. Prob not the optimum method but works for me.
i hold the clutch with my left hand with a leather glove , and i use impact wrench on the nut ...
