A few points to bring to the table. Does anyone know if his business is structered as a corporation or is he just a dba? How his business is structured will make a difference in all of this. Let's assume Matt has a legit business as in paying business taxes as Matt Hatfield Racing and is also set up as a corporation. He is going thru a divorce and she will most likley give the judge a story about how she was a big part of the business and helped build it blah, blah, blah. Then she will either want part ownership or for Matt to buy her half of the business. It's possible he is running the business into the ground to either lessen the value of the business or he plans on making a train wreck of it then handing it over to her and laugh as he walks away. Going on the assumption above that he has a structered corporation you will be taking Matt Hatfield Racing to court, not Matt. As far as the law is concinered you made a deal with Matt who represents Matt Hatfield Racing. As crappy as it is all he has to do is file bankrupt and any judgements against him are put on hold, the companies assets, if any are sold and the judge decides who gets how much if anything for the selling of the business assets. It would be possible then to take Matt himself to civil court but depending on how his business was structured it would prob be a fruitless effort. This is all assuming his business is structured as a llc. Been thru something similar in the past as have a few friends. I lost close to 5k in the deal. I hope everybody in this deal comes out ok in the end.
Pretty sure you can't be a dba if you operate out of a shop and keep merchandise there.

State and local laws differ from place to place but in South Carolina if your business operates outside the city limits of any town you can run whatever business you want, with or without merchandise as a dba.

I have all my parts back and an active dispute for the $451 I paid for services that weren't performed or else I'd be filing suit. Instead I'll be content with having my parts back 4 months of wasted time and getting my money back since Matt openly admitted that all he did was a "trinity" style touch up port and bored my cylinder 2 bore sizes bigger wasting two bores for no reason. Oh and did absolutely zero to my cylinder head. And now blocked me on Facebook haha if anyone talks to him tell him Derrick said to suck it and the other persons cylinder head his dumb ass sent me is on its way!

Sometime it's best to take what you got and move on. It sucks bad that he bored your cylinder that much......you can't find these cylinders on every street corner.

I put a dispute in today with my bank. They are contacting paypal and i should know within 10-15 business says if i win my dispute.
I also had a WONDERFUL conversation today at the police station. I have a few options available to me. Which in the coming days i will share some more information on.

I hope you stick something criminal to that aZZhole! Like I said its gonna be tough but maybe the fact that he took goods from you on exchange for services and he altered those goods will make it theft. He's a nice guy I really just think he's not all there or he's slow mentally and extremely lazy.

I'm pretty sure he's slow like a couple cans short of a six pack that of he's a compulsive liar lazy and retarded. I was very friendly with him that's basically the only reason he talked to me and sent my stuff back at all I'm pretty sure. Then when I got my cylinder head back and confronted him about how he didn't even port my cylinder or touch my cylinder head and that he wasted two bores on my cylinder for no reason he got like kid on the playground defensive and acted like I was wrong for being upset that I paid him money to do things and after 4 months none of the things I paid him for were done.

Yet every time you talk to him you are assuming he will change his stripes, or suddenly do the right thing. The guy is a looser.thief. lier what ever you want to call him. TAKE THE LEGAL ACTION>>ALL OF YOU. make the drive and get your parts and video with audio you at his place picking up your parts. He may not have them, he may. But at least its on video and you will know. Best case you get parts back. If you have paid him for parts and service you will have to take legal action anyway.
Guys--the guy will file for bankrupsy. Im sure you are not the only one. Think about it--how long he has been playing this game all over the country. He is just going to sell any and all parts he has of yours or collect prepayments from everyone he can until it all catches up and he either goes to jail of files bankrupsy.

Exactly and if he does file they,re all f,d.Sounds like he be preparing for it for awhile,wouldn,t surprise me if he,s been stashing away cash money of the books.When he knows he,s truly sol you can bet he,ll sell whatever is there for any $$$ he can get.seen it happen too many times.Pocketing money coming in and not paying any bills owed when they know the end is near.I don,t know the man or even dealt with him,just my .02 on what I,ve seen first hand in other instances.

Funny thing is Most of them asked me who to have engine work done by, I said HPR, Iceracer and mike 500fanatic. and Too stay away from MHR and Q. I told them this for a reason, but they decided cheap was better and you see the result.

Sadly, I trusted Matt due to two prior transactions that went smooth as can be. Any builder can turn nightmare like Matt has. There are records throughout the history of the inter webs of good people turned thieves or scam artist.
At least if we leave this thread up, maybe even sticky it. People can learn from our experience and never send him work. Because there are people that are still sending him stuff who don't know about his business ethics.
I agree though, IceRacer was a dream to deal with. I had so many questions throughout the building process of my motor, and he always texted me back with answers/ explanations on what he was doing and how it benifited my motor.
Lesson learned. In the process of filling out police reports and disputing the bank transfer.
