I wouldn't mess with it. They rarely go out. It is worth not getting all stinky too.

Yeah leave it be man, I have a 1990 650sx stand up jet ski all stock down to the oil injection system, no problems! Every one says they go out It hasn't in 24 years , my dad bought it new so I know it's original , also have a 2001 yamaha blaster an all stock with the injection system too an no problems, the only upgrade to delete the pump is u can gain a lil hp with pre mix but it ain't much.

My first bike was an LT80. Had the oil injection but after about a year of riding it I remember it ran REALLY good one day, then it stopped running. The oil injection went out and it burnt up.
If it's working then that's good but keep a real good eye on it. You really can't tell it's working while you're riding, ya know? It's one of those things that you don't know it's gone until it's too late

My 93 blaster ran oil injection for 15 years before one of my buddies got drunk flipped it and all the oil ran out of the injection rezzie he then rode it 30 minutes back to my house with the red light on and as soon as it hit my driveway it siezed up. Like chuckie said run it but keep an eye on it they rarely fail.

i just don't want the oil injecter to crap out because it is a nice little quad my ten year old runs and her six year old sister has been ridding it and i also have a two year old that could run it if it lasted that long. any suggestions on a bike for my ten year old could step up to she has been running the 80 since she was four !

I learned manual clutch on a blaster when I was 12. But our blaster is about 2-2 1/2 inches off the ground and +4 long.
But still, a blaster would be a good candidate.

I was considering a blaster my friends son has one and it seems
Nice . I inquired to a friend about one that is set up for a girl
Pink effects and spring but he backed out and wants to hold on
To it . It would b nice if Suzuki made a two stroke in the middle
Of the 80and 250 ! I already have 3 zuk's and a Kawi now I might
Throw a yam in there , it's hard to stick to one make lol

I did not know that was an option what do you do get a
Thick walled cylinder sleeve ? Could u govern a 250 on the
Throttle cable or would that hurt the engine , not being able
To open it up ?

I whent from a Kawasaki kfs 250 4 stroke to a banshee at age 10 , freekn loved it! Had a set of pipes an pro design air box up grade , then when I turned 15 I bought the complete lobo 2 front suspension an then had cylinders bored for the first time an had it ported an bigger carbs an cool head added to it an smoked my old man on his new banshee back in 96, pops still has his shee, sitting for abt 11 years untouched! The blaster has always Ben an awsome starter quad.

Ive seen the oil injection fail on an early Blaster first hand. But like everything, nothing is 100% fail proof. I don't recall seeing another oil injection failure other than
**** leaky lines on anything else injected.

Yea most of the Debore 200 class bikes had thicker cylinders. Kawasaki debored and destroked the tecates though I think.
If you put a throttle stop on top of the slide it would probably be best. Keeps the kid from backing the governor screw out the back of a throttle housing lol
Look at the stock KFX/LT 80 throttle stops and the ATC90/110 throttle stops if the kids not mechanically inclined then the ATC style stop would work
Chad and I were talking about that for his daughter

i am going to leave the oil injection alone and hope it holds up for my six year old and i will start looking for a blaster

The injector pumps work till they don't.
I always recommend disconnecting the pump drive and running pre-mix for the long haul.
It's your call. With the china 39.99 cylinder kits, It boils down to which is more convienient for you.

I know this is an old thread, but this topic is near and dear to me as recently, the ALT50 trailbuddy I gave to my nephew last year for Christmas was ruined because I decided to leave the stock oil injector hooked up even though I knew better. Like Jack said, they work until they don't. When they go out, it's an expensive fix. Usually so much so that the bike isn't worth fixing and basically becomes a parts bike.
In the case of my nephew, the oil hose either ripped or came off on one of the ends (not sure which end since I didn't see it). He drove it all around their house watering the yard with Champion 2 stroke oil. When the engine finally ran dry, it ruined the lower end.
That's just one way these things can go out. My '87 LT80 has WAY too much money in it to trust it to a 27 year old oiling system, so I ditched it when I built my motor. (My motor, coincidentally, originally had to be rebuilt because it quit oiling properly. The lower rod bearing went out and so I decided to put some money in it building it up when I did that.) I was hoping to get away with leaving the factory oiler on the little ALT50 even though I knew better.
I'm 0 for 2 so far in the long run on trusting the factory oiler.
So despite what people say, removing the oil injector and running pre-mix is the only truly safe way to go. If you've got a cheap bike and it's not worth much, and you don't want to mess with pre-mix, I guess you can trust it until it goes out. But if you build a really nice little 80 (or 50) and have some blood sweat and tears (and money) invested, you'd be an idiot to trust the factory oiler.
Just my .02.
