I know how to rejet a keihin carb, I can do a mikuni, but a lectron I don't know anything about..
What are the benefits of this carb? Easy to rejet? Parts easy to get? Fits the oem intake & air box rubber manifold? How much better than a HPR modified mikuni tm38?

Lectrons seem to have their niche.. I usually only see them on drag bikes and hillshooters. I have never run one but i remember several guys futzing with them about 10- 14 years ago at the mx races i used to run. They were all on banshees and big bore hondas i was running against in the open 2 stroke class. They never could seem to get them to run consistantly for mx or regular play riding.
Maybe they didnt know what they were doing, and maybe newer lectrons are better, but for average riding, reliability, and ease of tuning, i saw enough of the lectrons without spending my own coin on one.
I beat many a faster rider/ bike due to the inconsistant performance of their engines.
When i saw 3-4 guys at the gate, nervously fiddling with their carbs, i knew I was gonna have my opportunity during the race.

I have a lectron on my hybrid and it has 2 circuits idle and wfo!!When I putz through the trails she loads up and I need to get to wide open to clear it out. For dunes it is great cause you are wide open more but if you do mostly trails i do not recomend thats just my experience with them.

The Penton's came with them stock (with twin Guzzlers) and I think one of the things to do was to replace it with like a Mikuni just for ease of operation

they can be tuned just like a jetted carb but not by just changing a jet. you would need to change the entire needle just to richen or lean the mid range. top end could be close on the needle and that where the power jet comes into play. the needle acts as pilot also. set the slide all the way shut and get it started with the needle only. let it warm up and raise the slide 1/4 of the carb bore. if it runs away its lean. richen the needle. once you get it where it holds for about 5 seconds it should be good. set your slide height. start with powerjet all the way open and start leaning it out until the bike pulls clean. and start doing plug chops. if you get to where the powerjet is shut all the way off than you will need to get a leaner needle for top end. its also best to make sure the throttle lets the slide shut all the way down and all the way open. if it doesnt. than dont run it. the first number on the needle is for top end. the second number is for midrange. the xl is just the generation of the needle. the higher the number the richer it is. a 5-0xl needle is richer than a 5-1xl in the midrange. A 4-0xl needle is leaner on top end than a 5-0xl needle.

The problem with a Lectron is that tuning is more complicated than just changing jets.
Once it's tuned, it can be more consistent and adjustable without changing jets constantly.
Getting to that point is where a lot of guys fail.

Lectron Fuel Systems in Texas is the new manufacturer of Lectrons. Dennis Packard makes his own alky needles hence the PE1,PE3,PE7 needles. Gas needles typically range in 5-2 to 6-2 on zillas. An alky needle would be around the 17,18,19 range. Or get a Packard needle. Need to make sure they are set up for a pump or gravity and if they are standard or HV (High Velocity) carb. The standard lectron has a 2mm taper. An HV has a 4mm taper. So a 48HV actually measures 44mm at the slide.

I agree with tex. They arent just a one size fits all carb. You have to do your work to get them where they need to be at.

Once set up it is nice to be able to dial in with the power jet instead of pulling a carb to change main jets all the time.

Seems like the PSI Big Air carb would be simpler to tune than the Lectron.

Lectrons are great carbs and not that hard to tune once you,ve worked with them for awhile.The key is getting the right needle.The wrong one and you,ll be chasing your tail.If you do ever get a lectron I,d recommend upgrading to the adjustable power jet.Makes tuning the top end very quick and easy.Also one thing to consider is Lectrons are a bit longer than a comparable Mikuni or Kehin so the distance between the rear bell mouth and airbox might not fit perfect.The inlet side is likely bigger in diameter too.You can easily have it machine down and even a tad machined off the engine side to shorten the carb.I run a 38mm Lectron on my 250 and am very happy with it.I,m sure arguments could be made for any of the carbs talked about.Alot of it is personal preference or what your familiar with.Maybe one of the more knowledgable engine builders have some hard data on one being more efficient than the other.

A Lectron isn't really any more efficient than a Mikuni or Keihin, but that's not what makes them better.
The ability to fine tune the top end is what makes them so much better than the others.
That powerjet can easily tune the top end to a point that's between main jet sizes, which can mean a big difference in HP if tuned to the ragged edge.
The other nice thing is that if you think it might be running a little lean during a ride, you can always reach down and give it a little more fuel to keep it safe.

Good point,Lectron run 2 different needle and seats.1 for gravity and a different on for a pump.
