Blows my mind why Suzuki would put a six speed on the lt250 and not the lt500. Thanks.

They did it to keep the top speed down.  It's still has the highest top speed off the showroom floor than any other atv.

Anything is possible. The problem is the thickness of the cases. You'd have to make each gear a little thinner to fit a 6 speed into the width of a 5 speed. Could be done, but would be expensive and time consuming.

Didn't do much for the 250r still the same final ratio as the 85 to 86 5 speeds. Just have to shift more

I assumed they added a sixth gear to the 250, keeping the final ratio the same, to give the rider more ratio options to keep the engine in the power through varied track conditions.  That might explain why the 250, with less torque, would get an extra gear while the 500 would not since it can pull the higher ratios and be less sensitive to larger steps between gears.

I agree. Too bad the 500 can't have a 6th gear of about 0.750:1...

I'm not mining for old posts, just signed up..........the can-am 1000 atvs are limited to 77mph by the factory. My bro has one as well my cousin.
