Ok guys, before all hell breaks loose on this topic. Im looking for cheap easy fixes, I know those words do not go well with well performing. So now that I got it running the suspension is next on the list.
first the problems, the lower bearings on the front shocks are shot to

, would something like this

I would like to change the front shocks completely, BUT once again price, and I don't like the idea of hacking/welding on the frame (I know stop being a vag)
I would like the idea of extended A arms, but after reading everything I'm thinking those on 85s are in the land of unicorns that fart rainbows.
I do plan on doing the bump steer mod, and the Front camber mod eventually when I get around to it (probably next week) might buy the spacers from Mitch if he is still selling them.
Thanks for the help.
Camber mod and the bump steer mod makes a huge difference 100%
Ok, now just to make sure I know what i'm doing.
shave the edge on the a-arm and put the necessary spacer, no bigger.
take the steering horns and switch sides with the, placing the right on the left and left on right so that instead of the "horn" going up it goes down.
Then what about those lower shock bearings?
Ya that's the general Idea. All balls is best bet for a cheap bearing kit. Beside that you could convert it a adjustable strut with heims but probably be about the same money and the heims would be exposed.
thanks, and probably a dumb question but how do I then adjust my toe/camber? not how I physically do it but how do I tell the degree that I am at, do I need a special tool?
SO I went to do the suspension mods the other day and I noticed that my steering horns are different. the right is flat while the left is curved upward like it should be. Should I buy an original one for the right side or make a flat one for the left side? anyone see this before?
Just guessing here but I would replace the flat one with original equipment.
Thats what I was thinking. I did a quick flebay search and found both styles for the LTs but I still dont like the flat ones, because it defeats the while pourpose of doing the mod, From everything that Ive read the main point is to get the tie rods to be as parallel to the lower a arms as possible. so you want the steering horns (dont know what theya are actually called) to swoop downward.
Switch them from side to side and make them go downwards. That's my understanding anyways.
I would buy new ones. Any hard it to the wheels they bend.

Auto corrected maybe? What was that last sentence suppose to say WV? I don't want to miss out on something useful.
Probably a h missing after the word hard....
I understand now. I'll be getting new ones after I get my full rebuild done... Just found out that my motor is pretty jacked up, so everything else is put on hold for now.
