250 axle question
« on: January 20, 2013, 10:45:53 pm »
what was the years that the 250 had a smaller spline axle and bigger or more splined axle so the 500 or 450 hubs would fit?

87-up 26 spline

85-87 1/2 250's were 24 splines. Somewhere in 87 they switched to the 26 spline so Honda and ltr, Ltz also fit.

Yeah mines a 24 spline also I have a question how do you remove the carrier from the swing arm do you have to cut the 2 studs that hang out the back?

My 87 had 24 spline. Someone might have switched the axle before you bought it with a 85 threw 87 and half. That is  possible someone switched before you had it. SGP parts list a 88 with 26  and they have 2 listing with the 87  24 and 26.

Unless you've owned the quad since it was new, the only way you're going to know for sure what it has is by counting the splines.
20 years is a long time for people to change stuff out on a quad.
I've had an 87 frame with a small reed cylinder and an 89 with a 24 spline axle along with an 85-86 plastic throttle.

you don't cut them off.

lock 2 nuts together and unscrew them.  then you put them back in after the carrier is in the swingarm the same way, lock 2 nuts together and treads them in.
