Proformance Prototypes swingers and a-arms
« on: March 31, 2013, 11:29:32 am »
Sent Shawn at Proformance in Michigan an email about making swingers and a-arms for us. He built Aarons Swinger for the 1100. Aarons 8+ arm was around $370. This is the Email and reply   +k2

I'm located in Northern Michigan and have 6 LT250R or LT500R Quadracers and 1 hybrid (250 frame/500 motor). The arm you built him looks great and many of us are interested in extended swingers and a-arms for our quadracers. I could drop 1 of each them off or just send the stock parts. I'm just wondering if this is something you would be interested in? It's getting hard to find aftermarket stuff for these old bike's be we have a large group of guys still riding and racing them. Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Garrett.

Hello Garrett sorry it took so long to get back with you we have been extremely busy trying to get a few bike ready for the PSDA race coming up in 2 weeks. Anyways yes I did do a swing arm for Aaron Olson. I didn't know there was this big of a following for the quad racers. If there is an interest in swing arms & A-arms or anything for them I would definitely be interested in doing some. Let me know what you are thinking and that would be great if you could send some stock parts that way I could build some fixtures then send them back to you. We sort of specialize in doing stuff that other people don't want to do.  I am going to also check out your site. What part of Michigan are you from? We are in west olive it's between grand haven and holland. I look forward to working with you in the future.

I wonder what his pricing will be like! Curious about getting a plus 3 or 4 swinger for my Zilla.

Ive got a lsr on my zilla and a mod quad on my hybrid. Both adjust the same other than lsr is on the side and mod quad in the center. Both seem great.

Garrett, whichever one is going to be more readily available... ModQuad one seems like a nice piece... Anyone speak to LSR lately to see if their carriers are going to continue to be made?  Anyone else make a billet carrier... RAD does...pretty sure theirs is set up like ModQuads w/ adjust in the middle.... Maybe Jason W. can chime in on who seems to supply/make the carriers....?

Badmoon,

Maybe we can get them on the site?  Give them a spot in the store section.

You could do like Dale did and make the carrier housing for a Banshee axle carrier, that way there are tons of cheap aftermarket parts, brake & rotor hubs, can get a +4 axle for a wider stance, can get a JJ&A axle...etc

Can can speak on this more if he cares to.

My questiona is about the carrier style, I had planned on rad carriers. My question is the carrier style, I want round housing carriers, but that leaves only 85-86 style carriers if we stick with old suzuki, I was looking at possibly,z400 or ltr450 carriers or possibly banshee. Just wanted opinions. Once we have these in production I'm sure we will be in the store, as far as pricing not sure yet, but should be less than $400 for a ladder or drag style swinger, arched may be a little more. He's really busy getting ready for the PSDA racing season right now, in a week or so he said he could really jump on our parts. I've all ready shipped him a 87-90 250 swinger because I had an extra loose one and I need a 2+ swinger ASAP. I need a 85-86 swinger, 91-92 swinger, 85-86 a-arms and 87 zilla a-arms to make jigs from. I will be sending my 87 250 a-arms and 89 zilla swinger and a-arms as soon as I have them off.

i know ltz parts are more common but why not go with ltr 450 parts instead. they handle much better than an ltz any IMO every other quad i have ever ridden.

I think shawn will be able to do whatever you want if you send him your carrier. I think I might go z400 for the first one??

I have nothing but good things to say about them.  Super easy to deal with and great quality.  Looking at having them do some a-arms for me down the road and a few other things.

My suggestion would be to go with a 40mm carrier for a Banshee axle.  You can get axles new or used easily (JJ&A, LSR, MOD QUAD, ETC..).  You can find nice used axles usually pretty cheap!  Saves a ton of weight and they just look good!!!  Also alot easier finding wheel setups.  That is why I went with this setup in mine.

Also, it was a +12 swinger!!!! (Y)

Hi Shawn
Thanks for the reply, I understand about the being busy. Between my job and finishing up some asphalt modifieds and Latemodels I've been working on, it hard to find time. Anyway i'm up north by the bridge, i'm down that way a lot, We have quite a few MI members on the site and we all have a couple big rides at SL in the summer. The guys are looking for extended swingers, 2+1 a-arms, steering stems and a few other things. There are some years that have different style A's and swingers, but I want to start with the most common. I'm going to send you a swinger that fits 87-90 lt250r, I'm looking for a +2 over stock ladder bar style, not sure what carrier yet, most suzuki's use square style and I want round. Second I will be sending a set of 87-92 Lt250r A-arms, I'm looking for a 2+1 setup, also we want to swap the upper ball joint to a threaded TRX250R style, The quadracers are built with positive camber in the front which is no good, we like to adjust the upper so we can have about 2 degrees negative camber. These are going on my hybrid, 250 with a zilla motor. It's a common and easy swap. When I tear my zilla down i'll send those parts to with descriptions. There is a lot of interest about these parts on the site, so you may be getting some calls and emails. One members already wants a 87-90+4swinger before memorial day, you may get flooded with orders if our proto's turn out nice. Also do you have a local source for powder coating and chrome plating? Thanks for the help and interest Shawn. Garrett

From Shawn @ Proformance.

Hey Garrett I just got back from the psda race in la and trying to get caught up with everything. Yes i do have a great powder coater and chromer. For a regular color (black, red, blue) its $50 to powder coat a swing arm or A-arms the candy or fancier colors vary on what they are. Chrome also varies on what kind of swing arm it is usually in the $200 range though. i use all 4130 chromoly tubing on my swing arms. the ladder bar & arched are built out of 7/8 .058 tubing and the drag style arms are built from 1 3/8 .083 tubing. If people want additional bracing or gussets i will also do that for small up charge $10-$20 depending on what they want.
I appreciate you sending me your stuff to make the fixtures off of. when do you think you will be able to send that stuff out. I did have one guy contact me already about doing a arm.
Looking forward to working on this it sounds like there are a lot of people interested in this stuff.

If you want you can give me a call at the shop.

Thanks
Shawn
