Finally getting ready for 2013.
« on: June 03, 2013, 08:09:33 am »
It's June and I'm just now getting my 250 back together.
To start, my garage has been reduced to a storage locker.

I got the plastic and motor off so I could put my new cylinder on and found that I lost the new wrist pin bearings in the move. Ordered new ones. Should have them Wednesday. Until then, I did all the other checks. The cushion bearings where bad. Not bad. I'll have them Wednesday as well.
I got busy cleaning.

Look close. It will be another year or more before it's this clean again.
Cutting the plastic has crossed my mind. Haven't decided.
Just laid a bit of tape to get an idea where I would cut.

I can't tell you how happy I'm going to be running round carriers on both my wheelers. No more fighting the box carriers and more.

That's how it was mounted on the donor wheeler but that doesn't mean the original owner didn't get it wrong. I'll have to take a look.
I have the new cylinder mounted and the motor on the 250.

I left the plastic off while I broke it in. To re torque the head, I needed to take the pipe off so naked buggy made sense.

Now it's ready to ride. Tomorrow morning in spring creek and next weekend at Majestic Lost Trails in Bradford PA.

Im hoping to get the 500 out of storage today and get it broke in and jetted this week.
Thanks to Toddzilla for the use of the garage. And thanks to the members for the helpful info when needed.

Checked that. The bolt pattern follows is tapered the same as the swinger. It's the only way it can be mounted.
That is a PWK 36mm. Took a while to get the hang of tuning it but it's never given me trouble once it's set up.

The 250 is not going to be running for a while. 2 of the head studs stripped when I was replacing the o rings in the dome. Not the
studs I had repaired, 2 others. It''s going to be a week or 2 before I can get a piston and have my old cylinder ready to run. Shtuff
happens. I'll have it running soon enough.
Gave me an excuse to get the 500 running and tuned. Dropped the pilot and got it to idle with ease. Can't get the needle to lean out enough. It's an 89 carb bored out to 40mm. The main was really fat at 390 so I dropped it to 370 and it cleans out under throttle. I put the needle clip in the top groove and it still loads up at mid throttle.
The needle is a 6dh6. I have an 87 carb with a 6dk3 needle. Is there a website I could use to look up the needle sizes?

Another question. I'm having trouble with the 500 pushing real hard in the turns. Stock a arms, plus 1 swinger, and work shocks set up for 160 lbs. I'm 180. I'm hoping it can be tamed a bit with set up but I'm not sure how to go about it.
Thanks.

Well, 2013 was a waste. My new 250 cylinder needs a few repairs so ill just
get the old cylinder bored put in a new piston and rings. I hope in 2014 I can get
some quality riding in on the 250 and the 500.

Your works shocks might need heavier rate main springs for your weight. A call to works performance For sure will give you the right direction. The pushing could be a combination of too much front end sag and the camber. Mitch sells camber shims to correct that problem. I can't help with the carb, I'm running a 39pwk. Guys here should give some help... That's one nice airbox your running. Lotsa folks here wanting one just like it

Thank you. I'll look into the front springs. Really couldn't be aggressive
with that much push.
I love that airbox. Collected lots of good parts for that 250 over the last
Couple of years.

Goin good. Im not sure if Todd or I will make it to the races. Cash is tight and both my quads need
attention. Seems like it's a great year for the races.
