Cliff Matlock father of Team Honda ATV racer Wayne Matlock passed away recently. He was enjoying Mexico in off road vehicles with friends, when a jeep driving on the wrong side of the road coming around a blind corner ran into him and another person in their vehicle. The other person with Cliff survived.
I knew of Cliff racing in the same racing organization AMA District 38. While not close friends with him I knew a lot of racers that did. He loaned our '87 Baja 1000 class 24 race team a triple headlight system that was instrumental in helping us finish the race. Especially for myself as I rode the start in Ensenada to Nuevo Junction and Tres Pozos over Mikes Sky Rancho to Camalu then up the coast to Santo Tomas (8:30pm to 6:30am over 350 miles at night). I didn't get to prerun any of the course, so those headlights helped make my ride safe and a success.
I never got to thank him personally for loaning us those awesome headlights. Thank You Cliff. R.I.P.
If you knew Cliff he was a very competitive racer. Information for services are on the D-38 website.
If posting this is unacceptable please delete it. I was just trying to get info out for an awesome racer and father.
