Michigan Q-thon
« on: December 08, 2012, 11:30:55 pm »
All right boys some of us discussed it in another thread, so lets do it. We have more MI members here than any other state. Not sure where you guys want to do the ride or when. This place about 30 miles from me will do whatever they can to help our event and entertain the whole family http://www.chandlerhillcampground.com/ There are hundreds of miles of trails and 2 tracks and the Tomahawk trail system that the campground connects too. They can get us Kegs although joe works at Miller and can hook us up  +k2 We can get 2-3 large sites and camp as a group. It is a pretty rowdy campground. Great trails and a bunch of other fun things to do. The Casino, Avalanche bay water park, and many other things to do.

I vote for the dunes as a #1 destination!

I know Greek, Fred, Joe Rock, and some others would come too. I love trail riding too but Silver Lake is probably a better venue.

i was gonna say the dunes to, but everytime i do they dont want to go there. plus i think where
that place is its further north, and i already have a 9hr drive just to get to the dunes. we make that trip
2 times a year and the family goes, plus you cant beat the Camp David crew. its almost like a
extended family up there. they treat us very well.
oh and you dont need to wash your bike when your done riding. lol

Going with a bunch of Zilla guys would be ideal for spare parts and support.

Our big suzukis are right at home on the sand. When I go to silver lake I don't see to many other suzukis, it would be fun to talk to and meet some folks from the site.

Yeah its a awesome dune quad. I will say that the Zilla would be a blast on some of Michigan's 72" Routes (wider trails) that we have all over. I was going to try mine out this fall but the weather never worked out for it.

Silver lake would be fun, problem is if you have a Q pipe like me and most of you, chances of getting in the dunes are low depending on the weekend. They DB test and a freshly packed Q pipe is way over the limit + you need a sparky. I'd love to go there and ride with dave and freddy though. I'll probably be riding my 250 no matter where we go at this point. The zilla is missing second gear and is a pita to ride that way. Let me know what you guys want to do, or we can try to do both?? Trail ride and a dune ride, The trails up here are wide, mostly snowmobile trails setup for 2 way traffic.

If someone has a sparky I can always bring you in the back of the Dodge. That's what I did last year when I had a Q pipe. The DNR will check for a spark arrestor but no sound test.

With the Q Pipe V2 I have a plan to mount a faux spark arrestor that I'll take off once I am in.  ;D

I am down for both. i love northern MI, and i want to get back up there this year. plus i wanted to take a dune trip as well. if anyone lives near Hale MI or osco County Fairgrounds. I'm planning on traveling up there for the weekend of the 5th and 6th of January. I have a buddy running a compact figure 8 bump and run, and i'm taking the 250 up for some quad drags. If i have the sled back together i'll be taking that too.

I'm game for both but its going to hurt if we hit mud. I've spent a lot of money to put this 500 back to stock look and powder coating to see it dirty  ;D I know it washes off but still its my baby now lol. I need to find another one in good shape to beat up on or a 250 hybrid for the trails. I didn't read but is there enough room for a 5th wheel for camping at the dunes? I know there is at Chandler Hill park but looking at the dunes too. Never been to the dunes and want to go for the first time. Did a lot of trail riding when racing up by rose city and brown city sound right? It was 22 years ago and had a lot of fun.

i dont think any campers are aloud in the parking lot for the dunes, just trailers to haul the toys in. but there are plenty of places to stay that are cheap
in that area. maybe one of the MI guys can help you better with this.

On a summer weekend a two bedroom cabin would be around 500-700 for the weekend. The local hotels are about $175 a night. Camping is $35 a night.........

In sept. we worked a deal for a 4 bedroom for 600 for thurs to Sunday.  4 couples  3 nights that's a sweet deal! But prime summer time it's a little pricey but if you can split between people it isn't so bad. I'm sure if a group of us book s wknd early and secure a few cabins we may be able to get a better deal

if you get the cabin make sure you double check with them about saturday and sunday.
i think there was a group of guys that rented one and they had to be out saturday night, i dont think you can
rent them on sunday. i think thats the day they clean them out for the next group of people that rents them.
but thats just for the cabins,
just a little heads up tho
