2013 Northwest Zillathon
« on: January 21, 2013, 06:33:17 am »
OK, heard a few members talking about getting something going for the Northwest group, so I'll jump in again and get it started.
First, I guess we need to pick a date and then location....or vice versa
I am open to any and all idea's.
Are we thinking a Spring trip (March/April/May)?, Summer (June, July, Aug)?
Location...Winchester Bay?, Florence?, Coos Bay? St Anthony's?

Let's get a good conversation going and everyone's input and then maybe set up a poll....

Any of the Oregon dunes sound like a good idea to me!  Winchester Bay is always good, it has a little bit of everything for everyone.

We used to do an annual trip down to Florence in August. The dunes were always empty and the weather was warm.
I'm open for whenever and wherever.

I have an annual trip the first weekend in August at sandlake with another group. My vote would be for Winchester.

Yeah Dave, you and Martha are always welcome. The trip is the first weekend in August, it is an annual trip put together by Michelle's family. I will ask Eli for some hard dates and get back to you.

Unfortunately the rangers at florence get a kick out of giving sound tickets. They chase you down in pairs and enjoy ruining your weekend. Winchester bay is by far a better choice for zilla owners.

They will be there during the summer months. It's unfortunate. My brother once got a sound ticket there and he hadn't even unloaded yet. True story.

OK, Thanks Richard.
I'll talk with Martha and see if we can swing down this year. Reservations are only a week away.

Thanks again,

Sand lake is a fun place to ride, not too big and some good tree runs.  I grew up 15 minuites from there and try to ride when visiting family.  We usually camp at the end of derrick road, though no hookups out there.

For zillathon, winchester gets my vote, cant beat it.

I agree.

I'd like to hear from a few more people and maybe we can start talking dates/timeframe?

I would love to make the trip. My only problem is I gotta save my vacation time. I'm taking the first half of June off to visit & do some sight seeing on the Philippines. But never say never. I'll be keeping some fingers crossed.

Sounds good! Looking forward to better weather so I can get the sand toys out again. I am going to Sandlake Sunday if the weather is good .

It sounds like August might be the best month, I know school starts up in September. The last weekend of August ties into Labor day and that might be a bit crowded. I know you (RJLT) will be in Sand Lake the first weekend of August. I wanted to head down, but that weekend is Martha's birthday and we have other plans.

I'm thinking, maybe, the weekend of the 17th and 18th (arrive the 15th, leave the 18th or 19th) or the weekend of the 24th and 25th (arrive around the 22nd and leave the 25th or 26th).

Just throwing some dates out there.

Mercenary, I am probably closer than you think if your on Dubuque, I am in 3 Lakes off 171st in between Dubuque rd. and 3 Lakes rd.

No worries Dave . The weekend of the 24th-25th would be my best option for August. How about  mid to late June?

Sounds like most are good to go with "Winchester".
So I think, IMO, that the location is set.

Now just the date or date(s)

Heard a few comments on late August.....

So are you guys going again in august like last year if so I might be able to make that.

I'm also OK with mid to late June as well.
15th/16th or 22nd/23rd
Nothing says we can't have 2 Zillathon's this year......?

Chime in guys and let's get the date set so we can get reservations going.
I'm liking Half Moon Bay this year instead of Discovery campground.
