I just finaly move into a ltr i was curious about the thermostat, i only ride in the spring and summer times i dont go riding when its cold very often, can i pull out the thermostat and still race the machine will it effect the way the quad runs, i dont want it to stick, it already gets very hot and has overhrated couple times, i know i need to do a head gasket already the coolant is pushing out and has pressure in the trans area also starting to push oil out the filter cap
If your thermostat is working properly, removing it will not make your engine run any cooler or better. If your engine is running hot it is because enough air is not flowing THROUGH the radiator or the radiator is not full of coolant or you may have a head gasket leaking.
If the head gasket is leaking you can feel the water hoses plump up when you go to wide open throttle operation. A leaking head gasket will usually cause coolant to blow out the radiator overflow even when the engine is still cold when you go to wide open throttle operation.
Make sure your fan on the radiator is working and keep your average speed in second gear or above. Most engines will always overheat when riding in first gear and sometimes 2nd gear especially in the summer. The LTR was made for racing and the radiator was not designed for low speed riding.
