Anyone know if hotrods made a crank for the LT500,s and if they did is their still a supplier. The crank on mine is worn a bit and the fit is a little looser on the new bearings so I either need to find a crank or repair the one I have.
they do but they dont have a timng marke on them
They only list a connecting rod on hotrods site for the 500,s.They do list cranks for the 88-92 250,s but nothing for the 500,s.
I have been asking about a new crank for my YZ and a lot of people have bad reviews on the hot rods cranks at least for my bike. I will probably go oem for my yz unless I find out that PROX is made in japan then I will go with them. I definitely see why you are looking for another crank then OEM for these omg $600.00 for a crank.
hot rods doesn't make a crank for the 500. only a rod
hot rods doesn't make a crank for the 500. only a rod
Thanks, that what I needed to know.Have to repair what I,ve got then.
Don't buy the Hot Rods kit! It's made in Taiwan, and the big end bearing is 2mm thinner than stock! That's 10% thinner!
I had a hotrod crank in my lt250r, It done real well, i just replaced it with a oem crank. The rod bearing on the bottom was getting play. My own fault, didnt run the wrist pin bearing with any thrust washer and it caused to wear out faster. but other then that no problem. I say 90% of the stories of them failing is from in proper break ins. But i dont know why they wouldnt make them for the 500.
Not enough demand I think.
How can you repair the bearing run out issue?
"Loose Fit"
I have a spare crank that is loose on the Slip Fit Bearing Side.
I wonder if welding up and regrinding would work...

Are you talking about the crank journal for the big end of the con rod or the bearings on the ends of the crank?
Not the Connection Rod - The Crankcase Bearings
Kyle - I have the same question.
Talked to crank works about that, it can be done but won't ever be right
You can have the journal turned down and a sleeve machined and"shrunk" over the journal.Actually had the same problem which is why I asked about the hotrods crank.Crank is getting done right now.I know automobile cranks can be spray welded and machined, not sure if they do it for small engines.Likely not cost efficient on a single cylinder engine.
Who can do this type of repair?
Turning down the journal and sleeved.............
